WJBK FOX 2 News Detroit 10PM

Was in Detroit last weekend, and enjoyed watching this station. As you can see, it’s all about content these days - content is king - no goodevening, no lengthy opener, just straight to the news. These two do not even say goodnight at 11:30 - the sports host does that by herself. American local news is quite different now.

Ah, Fox 2. Probably one of the top O&Os in the FOX TV business. Bold and never afraid to experiment.

They hired one Charlie LeDuff about a decade ago – he’s since produced a Fox-produced syndicated series looking at stories across America and gone on his own afterward – and he did series on series of reports highlighting Detroit’s financial ails. Here’s what one package looked like. Keep in mind that the music and beats come tailor suited to MoTown.

This is more of his unique style. Awesome local news that stands out.

Anderson’s Facebook show

The differences in coverage of the current LA standoff, with hostages and a wounded gunman in a food store in Silver Lake.

ABC7 - focusing on the SWAT teams outside the store.
NBC4 - heaps of IVs with witnesses
CBS2 - restrained, factual coverage and refusing to show police positions and tactics

A new open for CBS affiliate, KMOV in St Louis.

Better than the current O&O package. Great stuff from Hothaus.

KTLA Morning News - #1 in LA. This is exactly what Ten should be doing - news wth great personalities and not boring!

Can you provide a source?

KTLA5 wins 6:00-7:00am it seems. Whether they actually win 7:00-9:00am is not clear as it states they are the most watched newscast, but are the 7:00-9:00am programs on CBS, NBC and ABC classed as newscasts??

They are “first-place local news rank”.

If you look at all the statements, they are comparing only KTLA local news to other equivalent local news broadcasts (e.g. Spanish TV stations). However, these broadcasts are beaten by stations that are showing networked shows e.g. Good Morning America, Today etc.

So the example given shows that a local news broadcast is beaten by networked breakfast TV shows.

I really like the Coming Up graphics that CBS News uses (via Facebook). Not sure if this makes it to air?

I’m not a big fan of the main super they use and the position of it, like most other US shows but the other graphics elements of the CBS This Morning package are fantastic and would love to see something like that come down under.

Those look like the 2015/6 package update. Not the latest iteration, to say the least.

Outstanding stuff!

KTLA 5 News is a really nice station. High rating and they just know how to do news. They have this curious mix of serious and light - it’s all branded quite seriously as “news”, even their entire morning to noon block, and they have that very dark blue look. And yet they are also quite light-hearted. The set is also quite intimate. Maybe it’s all deliberate - anyway, they rate well.

I watch a lot of KTLA 5 News - it’s strong and better than ABC7 (sensationalist), CBS2 (straight to the point) and NBC4 (all over the shop)… we won’t say anything about FOX11 (ugh)
