I think Australian TV networks could do worse than look to Japan to shake things up a bit in presentation. If you look at, say, Ten Weekend News, including their sports presentation - it’s incredibly staid and old-fashioned. The first sport bit on the ANN update above is, at least, dynamic. (By the way, I’m not suggesting we bring all aspects here - but there are some things they do quite well there. Also by the way, these are nowhere near the most “out-there” examples from Japan.)
I just never understand the logic behind Japanese news. Is it sensationalist, or just really… weird for Westerners?
Like, the first video literally has a gameshow/jazz music infusion playing over footage of a crime scene of some sorts. Does that come off as insensitive to Japanese viewers or something?
Also interesting to see that there’s lots of English words in logos and titles, which would surely be weird for Japanese people who use a completely different set of characters to write and read with?
1 News Israel has been shutdown by the Netanyahu government ahead of the Israel Broadcasting Authority’s television channels 1 & 33 and eight radio stations being replaced by a new authority Kan on Monday, with legislation currently before the Knesset. Journalists at 1 News claim that the changes are about Netanyahu trying to control the media. Under the changes, production and news will be run by separate corporations.
Looks like the US will join Australia in having heavily networked local news bulletins outside of the major markets with this rule change courtesy of the FCC.
