Something like this would look really good for 10, maybe what Studio 10 can evolve into.
The use of the studio for the opening sequence is
God imagine if Sunrise had a setup like this!
ABC World News Tonight has a refreshed look with more graphical elements finally moving into the former 16:9 safe zones (itâs 2020, geez) and a new version of the early 2000âs music vamp and theme - though the Hans Zimmer is still around for the massive 2m11s tease.
On NewsNation:
So, how did it do in the ratings?
According to Nielsen Media Research, I donât think Fox News, CNN or MSNBC are shaking in their boots just yet.
News Nation pulled in 133,000 viewers in their debut launch. The show pulled in 34,000 in the demo.
To put that in perspective, Tucker Carlson pulled in almost 5 million viewers on Fox News. Even Shark Tank reruns on CNBC beat News Nation by more than 100,000 viewers.
Comparing the News Nation numbers to the 3rd quarter ratings for WGN America, it shows that NN dropped 33% in total viewers and almost 50% in the demo.
I love how free flowing Franceinfo is with the standing and walking. It feels so natural and inviting. ABC and Sky should take a look. Itâs so fresh and inviting to watch young hosts with confidence move around and chat about the news.
Are you saying that ABC News Sydney standing awkwardly at the desk isnât natural?
I donât understand who this is for, other than them realising reruns isnât going to be effective going into the future, it shows how Superstations and what became of them are so outdated.
I think they are trying to survive. Most gen ent cable stations in the US are down double digit %'s in ratings the last few years in a row. Cable news is not. So, they are trying it out⌠Better than sitting there are watch your audience crater 18% every year
But straight news? Even CNN eventually went to personalities, even if it isnât hyper partisan. Local news done nationally is an odd format.
With CNN, Fox and MSNBC all having opinion in primetime - apparently itâs the only national news in primetime that is not opinion or slanted. Their research showed there was an appetite for it. ButâŚ
They should have asked CNN and HLN first.
Thatâs a ridiculously long intro. Considering those 6:30pm bulletins generally run for 20/21 minutes (excluding ads), itâs ludicrous that the intro alone takes up nearly 10% of ABCâs bulletin
I also find him to be an off-putting anchor, but America loves ABC WNT these days.
Agreed.
Wouldnât put it past Seven or Nine to do a 2 minute Opener for their 6pm bulletins in the future though, considering that theyâve been known to run a 20 minute block of content before their first ad break!
One of Canadaâs provinces, New Brunswick, is having a general election today - the first in the country since the pandemic started. New Brunswick is one of Canadaâs smaller TV markets (780,000 people in all of NB), yet all 3 of Canadaâs major English networks and French-language Radio-Canada presented rolling coverage for viewers.
CBCâs coverage was based out of its studios in the provincial capitol, Fredericton. Their coverage broadcast on CBC New Brunswick (CBAT-DT Fredericton), and simulcast nationwide on CBC News Network, CBC Gem, and CBCnews.ca
CTVâs coverage was based out of their Halifax, NS studios (CTV News Atlantic has pan-regional newscasts thatâs shared between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island). Their coverage was seen only on CTVâs New Brunswick stations (CKLT Saint John/Fredericton, CKCW Moncton), and simulcast on CTV News Channel and online.
Global TVâs coverage was based out of their Halifax, NS studios (Global News produces separate newscasts for New Brunswick, but presented out of their Halifax studios). Their coverage was seen on Global New Brunswick (CHNB-DT), and simulcast on Globalâs OTT news channel for the Maritimes.
Radio-Canada, CBCâs French-language broadcast network, presented their coverage out of their Moncton studios. Their coverage was seen on Radio-Canada Acadie (CBAFT Moncton), and simulcast on CBCâs French-language national news channel, RDI.
TVA, practically a Quebec-only French-language network, probably didnât do live coverage, then?
No, thereâs no TVA stations in New Brunswick. TVA is seen on cable only outside of Quebec, except in Ottawa where there is a TVA station that broadcasts into that city.
