Does that explain the site going down?

Is it just me or has anyone else had their iPad battery drain really quickly when they visit Media Spy recently? Thought I was imagining it at first but I’ve noticed a few times now that I could be on the site for 10 minutes and it would drain 10% of my iPad’s battery.

Not sure whether it’s a sign that my iPad is getting old & needs replacing (have had it for roughly 8 years), a glitch with the Chrome browser or something else altogether?

I reckon it’s most likely this. My old iPad is 8 years old and its battery is pretty average and it’s response to touch has only become worse.

Mediaspy does kind of consume the batteries of most devices quickly but maybe it’s just me being on Mediaspy for too long at a time

The thing is the battery draining issue only happens when I visit Media Spy. If it happened on numerous websites, I wouldn’t think twice about what’s causing the issue

Could be the way the website is configured - it must be using lots of resources.
Do note that with your iPad, with the latest updates, it can sometimes set you to be on the desktop version, which would consume more power than the mobile site.

Perhaps try switching to the dark theme? Might save battery not being as bright?

Perhaps because it’s called Media “Spy” it might be actively looking for "spy"ware?

I can absolutely relate to this, thought I was going crazy but it’s definitely not just you. I do find it drains the battery more than most sites and apps, also heats up my iPad pretty badly if I’m on it for too long. I’ve only really started to notice it the last couple of months too.

Why are threads being locked to stop discussion of topics?

I don’t think people are speculating - they are just discussing potential host options because the current Weekend Today team is dreadful and we all know it.

Maybe moderators see it differently to me.

It’s because we’ve got other threads for this.

I’ve always used the desktop version on my iPad and haven’t had too many issues until recently

Could it be the animated ads that are chewing up the battery power?

Its done to stop the thread derailing - in this case a direction was given to move on (and those wishing to continue the speculative talk to take it to another specified thread):

It could be an issue with the browser - do you have the battery option in settings that allows you to see what apps have consumed battery?

Dunno, MS is resource hungry for me too, my laptop fan goes berserk whenever I’m here, but when I log out, it’s all back to normal. Maybe MS gives old Compaq’s hot flushes? Uses about a quarter of the CPU every time, with no other windows loaded.

It also refuses to bring up the site, from time to time and I often have to click my link for it a couple of times for it to work.

I’m using Mozilla, so no Apple stuff… could be something to do with the website/host affecting some users?

I get the same level of resource hogging as the old Facebook news feed. After scrolling a thread for a while, the memory consumption increases.

Yeah - iOS’ settings app allows you to see how much battery various apps use. For me, Chrome is the app which uses most of my battery but that’s expected because it’s the app I mostly use
