House Rules

Would have been gutting though had they finished before the cyclone but the garden then became a victim of it.

According to TV Tonight, the grand final has been scheduled for Sunday July 9 at 7pm, up against the debut of Australian Ninja Warrior on Nine. Given the winning team will be decided by viewer voting, it will have been great if the finale is shown live in SA provided Kate and Harry make it, but Seven’s telecast of the AFL match between West Coast and Port Adelaide (4pm start in SA) means it is not possible.

As posted in Behave Yourself thread, the charity unit reveal has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 4.
In the first round of the gardens makeover, LLB was scathing of the mistakes made by all four teams, in particular Andrew and Jono’s small veggie patch in the backyard of Sean and Ella’s house, and Sean and Ella deciding to build a pool equipment shed and cubby house in the backyard of Aaron and Daniella’s backyard, blocking the view.
The judges had mixed viewers on the upper deck at Sean and Ella’s house, I am not sure why Drew dislike the decoration? Also, Wendy didn’t like the pebbles around the fire pit on the front yard. She should have been wearing more comfortable shoes then she would not have feared of tripping over.
Interestingly after the first round the top three teams finished on 21 points while Sean and Ella came last with 17 points.

##seven’s 2017 HOUSE RULES’ Top 3 Teams Revealed

SA’s Kate & Harry, WA’s Andrew & Jono and QLD’s Aaron & Daniella are one step closer to the House Rules Grand Final after “poor planning” saw Tassie’s Sean & Ella eliminated from the competition.

After impressing the judges with their “seamless” and “professional” makeover of Andrew & Jono’s back garden, Kate & Harry head into the grand-final decider stag with the advantage of a win under their belts.

Having finished at the top of the leaderboard with 45 points, the married couple edged out twins Andrew & Jono who were next in line with 44 points, followed by Aaron & Daniella on 41 points with Sean & Ella in last place on 35 points.

The most controversial garden of the night proved to be Aaron & Daniella’s ‘rock’ garden at Andrew & Jono’s, which had judges Wendy Moore, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Drew Heath disagreeing.

Wendy said the team had favoured form over function with their design and felt it was “deceivingly” high maintenance. “I think you need to be able to think of design ideas which are comfortable and liveable at the same time.”

But Laurence and Drew praised the QLD pair’s design choice with Drew describing their garden as “architectural and contemporary.” Laurence was impressed by Aaron’s wooden hoods over the windows: “I thought they were lovely, really contemporary, really clever, really nicely detailed.”

But one thing the judges did agree on, was that Sean & Ella had missed the mark with their design of Kate and Harry’s front garden. It was clear the pair hadn’t recovered from having to redesign the area after design expert Carolyn Burns McCrave pointed out a front yard wasn’t a suitable play area for Kate and Harry’s son.

While the judges loved Sean & Ella’s herringbone tile driveway, they all agreed the fire pit was not functional and too close to the front entry to be properly enjoyed.

Drew said the timber gateway, which Laurence named ‘Stonehenge’, felt “childish.”

The Tassie team’s rushed choices were reflected in a combined judges’ score of 18 out of 30.

On leaving the competition, Sean said: It’s special that we could be a part of it and give these guys their dream homes. Ella added: “We’ve met some awesome people; we’ve got some great friends.

“We’ve got our dream home now and our front garden and backyard. It’s like a dream. I think it’s the best thing we’ve ever done together.”

Do we know if the Grand Final of House Rules on Sunday July 9 will actually be Live like all other years? I thought I saw at some stage that it might not be and they are not advertising it as such at this point in time. I for one certainly hope that this is not the case because the Live part of the Grand Final is what makes it unique and great, it would be a mistake if it wasn’t. Plus, how would the winner be decided if it wasn’t live, the public would still have to vote on the winner right, like all other years? It would be very wrong if the public don’t get a vote this year because the Grand Final is not Live.

The “charity house” to be renovated by the three remaining teams was Bezzina House in Kogarah in Sydney’s southern suburbs. It provides comfortable, low cost, home-away-from-home accommodation for cancer patients and their families undergoing cancer treatment at the St. George Hospital. It has 15 self-contained units, some with wheelchair access located in three wings, two on the ground floor and one on the upper level.

In relation to my last post it looks like, judging by a Sunday July 9 promo I just saw for the House Rules Grand Final & Yummy Mummies, it WILL NOT be Live. How on earth can it be done? This has made me so angry because as I mentioned, doesn’t the public get a say in the result. I don’t know what this is and why Seven have made this move but it is very, very bad in my opinion

It is a bad look if the grand final is pre-recorded due to LLB’s travel schedule.

Seven’s press release above reflects my feelings for Sean and Ella’s renovation of Kate and Harry’s front yard. It was the Tasmanian duo’s worst work of the season. What it did not say was the judges’ appraisal of the transformation of the backyard at Andrew and Jono’s house. Apart from the basketball court which needed more work, Kate and Harry did a great job creating a seamless connection between the back deck, kitchen and the speakeasy bar. The Rubik’s Cube paving was a great idea as was the “King’s Landing” tag on the fence (the twins’ last name is King).
To the start of the charity house makeover. When Joh said each of the three remaining teams would be given a separate apartment with its own rules, my first thought was “yay, no more fighting over room space”. It was dashed when Joh added the teams had to renovate the common area and the nastiness returned. Andrew and Jono could have made the most of the small kitchen, instead they went head with the island bench which encroached into the dining area allocated to Aaron and Daniella. For the first time, each judge set separate rules for the apartment. Laurence’s rules were simply outrageous and did not fit with the purpose of Bezzina House. How will cancer patients feel when they enter Laurence’s apartment and see taxidermy inside?

I was talking to Joh on twitter and she says that it was mainly due to cost issues why they were not able to have a live grand final this year, it would have cost too much setting up satellites etc in the two grand finalist’s homes. There were a number of changes that had to be made for House Rules to even be back at all this season and this was one of them. She said put simply, it was either no live grand final or no House Rules at all this season.

Setting up live crosses to the two grand finalist’s homes would cost no more than Seven filming an AFL match wouldn’t it? The network is just saving money.

She said it wasn’t just this, there were other factors too but she mentioned the costs of setting up the satellites specifically. I didn’t think it cost much either but I will take her word for it, she knows what is involved because she is the host of the show after all!!

I’m guessing they filmed each couples reaction to when they won to keep it under warps and the real winner will be shown on Grand Final night. Like they do to most shows these days

###Besties set to battle it out in Seven’s HOUSE RULES Grand Final

QLD’s Aaron and Daniella and SA’s Kate and Harry will go head-to-head in the HOUSE RULES Grand Final after WA’s Andrew and Jono were eliminated from the competition.

The top two teams have been revealed after a nail-biting semi-final saw the competition’s best mates, Team SA and Team QLD, move one step closer towards the $200,000 Grand Final prize.

SA’s Kate and Harry were the first team through to the Grand Final after receiving a perfect score of 30/30 with the help of their bonus point, awarded for winning the statement piece.

Harry said: “It is an unbelievable feeling to be in the Grand Final. It makes being away from our boy worth it. We’ll be leaving no stone unturned to bring home the win,” Kate added: “We can’t believe on top of our beautifully renovated home, we now have a one in two chance of winning $200,000. It doesn’t get much better than that!”

The couple had the daunting task of following the eccentric house rules of judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, which instructed them to include “taxidermy” and “neoclassical style.” The couple’s risky decision to mount a peacock head above the master bed paid off, with Laurence calling it “frighteningly fabulous.”

QLD’s Aaron and Daniella scored an eight across the board after successfully implementing judge Wendy Moore’s “art deco” house rule. Their indigo and gold feature wall in the loungeroom blew away the judges, while their “luxy” bathroom couldn’t be faulted.

On reaching this stage of the competition, Aaron said: “We have worked so hard to get to the Grand Final, now it just seems amazing to have a chance at winning the $200,000. What an experience, it has changed our lives in so many ways.” Daniella added: “We are so grateful to have a fully renovated home and to now be in the Grand Final, it’s an incredible feeling.”

WA’s ‘geek twins’ Andrew and Jono were knocked out of the competition after delivering a “soulless” loungeroom which failed to impress the judges. However, it didn’t dampen their spirits: “We are really proud of what we have achieved, we’ve come a long way since the beginning,” said Andrew.

The Grand Finalists will face one last challenge before the judges’ final verdict decides the winner.

The HOUSE RULES Grand Final airs Sunday July 9 at 7:00pm.

There was a sneak peek of the grand final on Seven Melbourne tonight, as part of an extended promo which also includes the AFL match between Carlton and Melbourne and the debut of Yummy Mummies. The clip showed friends and relatives of both couples in the Sydney studio sitting in the background while the finalists faced the judges and Johanna for critiques.

Isn’t home base in Melbourne? Or did they move it to Sydney?

The home base has been in Sydney since the show began, but season 1 used the former Land Titles Office in Melbourne CBD as the facade.

LLB has cast doubts he will return for the next season.

Kate and Harry scored two 10s from LLB and Wendy and a 9 from Drew. Add to that one bonus point for winning statement piece, that gave the couple 30/30. But really, why was statement piece only worth one lousy point? If it is retained for the season’s charity house, it should be worth 3 points.
Aaron and Daniella, and Kate and Harry might have argued over the renovations, but what they achieved were a class above Andrew and Jono. Did the twins take it too easy to renovate the apartment after learning Drew’s rules? Wendy and LLB called the apartment “soulless”. To make it worse, the common room kitchen did not fit with the decorating style of the dining area and the lounge.
Tonight’s grand final should be very close.

###Aaron and Daniella win Seven’s 2017 HOUSE RULES Grand Final

Aaron and Daniella win the ultimate prize after defeating their besties Kate and Harry by just two points in the epic HOUSE RULES Grand Final.

Gold Coast glamours Aaron and Daniella have been crowned 2017’s HOUSE RULES Champions after winning a life-changing cash prize of $200,000 in addition to already having their home and garden completely renovated.

With their children Jaxon, 3 and Brooklyn, 1, watching on with their former HOUSE RULES opponents, Aaron and Daniella were in tears when host Johanna Griggs announced the result. Aaron said: “We just didn’t think this could happen. When we started, we just came along for an adventure, now look where we are… it’s breathtaking.”

When asked what the prize money would do for their family, an emotional Aaron said: “We just want to provide a beautiful life for our boys and give them opportunities that we didn’t have… (House Rules) has not only brought us closer together, but $200,000 helps us get ahead in life and means I can spend more time at home with my family… it’s beautiful.”

The Grand Finalists were given one last renovation challenge in each other’s homes. Aaron and Daniella renovated a previously untouched narrow space down the side of team SA’s house with the rules to create a boho blokes’ hangout with tool shed.

Receiving a combined judges’ score of 27 out of 30, judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen said: “There is absolutely no doubt that you two saved the best until last.” Fellow judge Wendy Moore praised Aaron and Daniella for creating an “incredible space”, while judge Drew Heath said: “I think you absolutely nailed and defined the outdoor room for a couple of lucky Australians.”

SA team Kate and Harry’s final challenge was to create a Vegas pool party cabana, bar and Aussie BBQ area in Aaron and Daniella’s backyard.

Runners up Kate and Harry received a combined judges’ score of 25 out of 30 but didn’t walk away empty handed. Harry left the competition saying: “For us to get our house renovated, to have a beautiful home, is the best thing that could ever happen… we are so thankful for everything.” A tearful Kate was “genuinely so happy” for their best mates in the competition.

These two couples were a class above the rest during the competition. Either team would have won. However Kate and Harry might have lost valuable points due to their use of dark sofa for the daybed and lack of tables at the BBQ area. Also, the episode did not say what happened to the cubby house which was dismantled to make way for the extended deck. Was it relocated or simply thrown out? Either way, Aaron and Daniella’s kids would not be happy they lost a place to play.
It was also mentioned during last night’s finale that a door had to be made from Kate and Harry’s house to access the “blokes’ hangout”. I looked back at the start of renovation of the house and found the access is from the master bedroom. Which means an extra set of locks.
I love the whole season because of changes made like statement piece and bonus room, and introduction of new judges LLB and Drew. I think they should be retained for next season but teams should be advised of statement piece at the start of renovation (the bonus room should also be allocated before renovation starts) so teams will not be caught off guard.

I don’t know if LLB will be returning next year, there were reports recently that he wasn’t going to come back to Australia if I remember correctly
