I think it could be like the UK version with Jeremy Clarkson…
I think Nine wants to make a local version of Tipping Point, hence the English version of show is on Saturday nights. Nine is trying to breathe life into the original Who Wants To Be A Millionaire format to keep the Millionaire rights alive, then the network will try to replace Hot Seat.
I know I’ve said this many times but I would love this to go ahead, but I’d rather not have Eddie McGuire host (does he have to host every game show on Nine?).
I could already picture these scenarios:
at any time during the game
Contestant: Drop zone #2 please.
Eddie: Lock in drop zone #2.
During the final round
Contestant: Lock in [answer]
Eddie: Lock it in!
In all seriousness, this should happen in the Aussie adaption:
- in the middle of the first round, the host would say “Round one continues, after this short break” or something among those lines". The same would occur during the final round.
- a Nine News preview would occur before the decision to take the trade or not, or in the event that the jackpot counter is unlikely to drop, before the final question.
No local version of Tipping Point please!
In the Nine Scheduling topic, it is mentioned that Hot seat will air at 3pm next week in Perth. It will remain at 4pm in Adelaide. It will also remain at 5pm in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Nine is probably sussing out the original Millionaire show, and testing the waters for a weekday move? I also hope that a local version of The Tipping Point doesn’t happen… yet.
Nine are definitely experimenting with both Hot Set and Tipping Point to go up against the successful The Chase Australia. They should scrap Eddie if they plan to do Tipping Point and get someone else… maybe Ben Fordham?
While I agree on this point…
4.5 hours of Ben Fordham every weekday for Sydneysiders (remembering his 2GB breakfast show)? No thanks!
to be completely fair, in the USA, the syndicated version of Millionaire ended in May 2019, with the revival premiering in April 2020, so you can’t really say that it’s not likely to be successful here due to the timing of the show
Update:
Monday start time bumped to 9:00 pm. Note celebrity specials are 1:15 h duration.
so it’s obvious that 9 doesn’t really care then. or are secretly wanting people to watch this on catch up on 9 now
First contestant wins $0, great start!
Meantime, a modernized version of the traditional Millionaire soundtrack is being used on tonight’s episode.
When Nine ran those two Millionaire specials in 2010 (one of which featured students from various high schools in Melbourne, if my memory serves me correctly), the Hot Seat question music was used.
As others have mentioned, these 90 minute shows are way too long. It should be 60 minutes.
Is it from another international version?
I’m quite liking the show to be honest. All of the visuals look great too and it’s fine without an audience.
Edit out the $0 contestants somehow such a waste of prime time space. First contestant would have turned people off
The guy with the food van they should chase up for a follow up story later on seems like a good story
They’ve combined the 1999-2006 and 2007 sound track.
The lighting is awful.
That was bloody awesome! Loved the show. This should be replacing the 5pm show, which is old and boring.
The only negative thing is that they cut off the last contestant (red shirt).
I don’t agree. Personally I don’t love it when they win all the time.
Has it really been 15 years since this version last aired in Australia? Mind blown
