Hot Seat

Nine wouldn’t stick the “Made in Melbourne” stamps on the versions of program promos (including those for Hot Seat) which air on GTV if they didn’t have some impact on the ratings.

The average viewer has no idea which city the show is filmed in unless they tell you during the show.

And even if they tell you, I doubt people will not watch one show because it’s not made in their city and vice-versa.

I probably should have mentioned this, but my comment was more directed to the Brisbane audience. It’s no surprise Nine [News] Queensland has gone around, promoting the move of Hot Seat to Queensland and since then lots more from the sunshine state have tuned in to it. It was part of the reason many also decided to tune into Nine News Queensland.

And even funnily enough, in Melbourne, more people began to watch the Chase Australia on certain nights. I’m not sure if this had anything to do with the move.

So I just wondered what the viewers in Melbourne and Queensland might do.

Both of your statements are not wrong but I’m making these statements off ratings and viewer norms.

That promo almost looks like the promo for Lego Masters two years ago.

The original format is back for a run? Awesome!

I can understand why it was resurrected in the UK and US but we’ve had a variation of the format on our screens five nights a week for years so the nostalgia for it just doesn’t exist here.

I had forgotten how painfully drawn out and slow the original show was when I caught a couple of US eps.

Would be great for a celebrity or kids edition. I know I have mentioned this before.

Would be fitting if these Millionaire specials aired on Monday nights at 8:30pm, like the good old days.

I also remember there were two Millionaire specials in early 2010, airing on Saturday nights. Even though they used the traditional set of rules, the Hot Seat question music was used.

Any word on when Hot Seat specials will be airing this month? And also, when will new episodes start?

I would say they would air it on Saturday’s on the same slot as Tipping Point. Maybe Saturday 30th Jan?

My thinking is that they would be on Monday or Wednesday at 7:30pm.

But won’t people get sick of 2+ hours of Hot Seat a day?

It’s not like it’s on every day.

Once a week is OK.

Also worth noting, in the week of June 21, 2004, Nine trialled a weeknight, half-hour edition of the traditional Millionaire at 5:30pm in an attempt to boost ratings for its Sydney news service, which was starting to lose viewers to Ian Ross on Seven News.

The experiment did not last very long and by the following Monday (28 June) the one-hour Price was back. While Nine News still won the week of 21/6/2004 in Melbourne by a sizable margin, in Sydney it was a whole different story.

New Hot Seat episodes airing on Monday 18th January next week at 5PM.

Still no word on when the specials will air. But we know sometime this month.

Nine is bringing forward the new episodes simply because of Australian Open tennis in February.

Phone a friend and spread the good news – the world’s greatest quiz show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, is back on Nine.

Lock it in your calendar when Millionaire returns for a special television event from Monday, January 25, at 7.30pm on Nine.

The new series of special episodes will be hosted by Australia’s No. 1 quiz master, Eddie McGuire, and feature a roll call of the nation’s favourite celebrities and sports people, as well as our vital frontline workers.

In the celebrity specials, stars will compete as pairs in a battle to win one million dollars for their favourite charity. The star-studded lineup includes actress Rachel Griffiths with Rhys Muldone, television and radio personality Red Symons with Wilbur Wilde, actor Stephen Curry with Bernard Curry, radio hosts Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw, actor Samuel Johnson with Hilde Hinton and singer Ella Hooper with Jessie Hooper

Two of these celebrities, Rachel Griffiths and Red Symons, are returning to Millionaire after originally competing in a celebrity challenge back in 2000. Redemption will be on their minds as they attempt to take home a million for their chosen charity.

In the Australian sport stars special, athletes including basketball legend Andrew Gaze, AFL hero Gary Ablett Jr, AWFL’s Tayla Harris, NRL icon Billy Slater, Netball’s Geva Mentor, Olympic swimmer Mack Horton and Paralympian Jess Gallagher, will be competing for their chosen charities.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire frontline workers special, will feature emergency service professionals and volunteers. After an excruciatingly challenging year keeping Australians safe from fires and COVID-19, now it is time for these incredible people to attempt to walk away with a life-changing sum of $1 million.

Host of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Eddie McGuire said: “We are starting the year with a bang. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire swept the nation after it premiered in 1999 and is still the greatest quiz show of all time.

“It is a joy to bring the format back to raise money for charities with some of Australia’s best celebrities and sport stars. It is also humbling to be able to give Australia’s incredible frontline workers a chance to take home big money.”
