Holey Moley

Are they replicating it from the US version eg found this?

More of a question, how low can it go. 350-400k tops. Tag will be the flop of the decade.

I don’t think Shirvo, like Beau on 10, are the best fit for these shows

Watching the repeats tonight, I actually don’t mind this at all. Not everything has to be polished, it is very down to earth and family friendly. Looked like fun.

Have to agree though, once a week at 60-70 minutes should be enough.

Yes the show is way better than the farce that was MKR and House Rules in their twilight years.

I think everyone agrees that 90 minutes is just too much. Seven would’ve had a hit on their hands if they went with 2 nights a week, 60 minute per episode.

My understanding is that next year 7 will lead with Idol… so even before Holey Moley they had different plans for next year.

The answers we have been waiting for…

  1. It’s cheaper to make a 90 minute show than a 60 minute show.
  2. Other networks do it, so we have to do it too.
  3. No-one invests in shows after 8.30pm

i get why Seven did this for Holey Moley, but cant they be creative and give us not-so-predictable-answers? lol

That only works if people are willing to spend the 90 minutes night after night on it. The longer something runs for, the less likely someone would be willing to watch it unless the extra content is good enough to keep people interested.

Although this rated lower than Travel Guides on Wednesday, it did do better with younger viewers.

  1. Makes sense
  2. No they don’t. It’s like saying if one network shows competitive woodchopping in primetime, the other networks also have to show competitive woodchopping as well. That point also assumes viewers can’t think for themselves. If a network is showing something at 8:30pm/8:45pm that viewers want to watch, most of them will change over and watch it.
  3. That’s a direct consequence though of #1. Asking viewers to commit 90 minutes 3 - 4 times a week to a single show is a lot. As such, it no surprise that very few post-9pm shows do well…

Just caught up with the first week of episodes and here are my thoughts:

Good banter between Shirvo and Rob, and Sonia’s involvement was kept to a minimum.

The course looks fun and the actual putting contests are very exciting. Although the course map shows 15 different holes, some share the same water hazard (Uranus / Putter Ducky / Surf ‘n’ Turf, Putt the Plank / Hole Number Two / Polcano).

If you look closely at the overhead shot of Clowning Around, you can see three pyramids behind it, that’s the Tomb of Nefer-tee-tee (the grand final hole).

Seems to me Holey Moley has brought out more colourful characters than Big Brother.

I agree each episode can be shorter. Just show the background story of each contestant and Greg Norman’s segment once per episode, and it will be done in 70-75 minutes.

One last thing: why did Shirvo and Rob have two mics - the big headset and the lapel on their jackets?

The lapel would be their actual mics. The headset would be for the commentator image.

Banker cashes in love for Holey Moley triumph
Amy Morris through to the Holey Moley Grand Final

Love was in the air for Holey Moley Singles’ Night, but banker Amy Morris chose competition over romance in a strategy that paid off handsomely. While the 27-year-old did not leave with a companion on her arm, she did take home the plaid jacket, golden putter and a shot at the life-changing $100,000 in the Grand Final.

With a former golf professional and club champion in the family, Amy admits there’s a bit of natural talent in the bloodline, but her entry in the competition wasn’t her doing.

“My dad started my application without me knowing. He thought it would be good to get me out of my comfort zone and have a bit of fun,” said Amy, who dreams of spending some of the prize money on a holiday to Greece.

Amy dominated the Holey Moley course from the first round, zapping any chance of victory for her opponent Kate Samios on the brand-new hole, Frankenputt.

Next, Amy glided through Slip ‘N Putt and over her round two opponent, Anna Parkin, before facing-off against a shirtless Scott McCristal in the final round on the sinister Clowning Around.

Both dizzy and disorientated from putting inside a spinning wheel, Amy and Scott initially struggled to sink their putts on the rotating green. When Scott overshot an easy tap-in, Amy was back in the game and sunk the final putt claiming the win.

Hole in one lands pilot Holey Moley victory
Jayden Lawson through to the Grand Final

It’s a birdie! It’s a plane! No! It’s jet-setter Jayden Lawson hitting a sky-high hole-in-one!

On tonight’s episode of Holy Moley the pilot and his signature pink putter flew through the course and landed a trip to the Grand Final for a chance to win $100,000 on Greg Norman’s top-secret, Tomb of Nefer-Tee-Tee.

“I’m so accurate that I’ve shot two of my mates in the head with a golf ball. It’s that kind of accuracy and focus that’s going to win me the Grand Final,” said Jayden, who was coached by the legendary Charlie Earp, also responsible for coaching Jayden’s golfing hero and Holey Moley’s resident expert: Greg Norman.

It was a big night for fantastic firsts and terrible twists on the Holey Moley course. DJ Ben Watson was the first competitor to outrun the dunny doors on Hole Number Two. But the course proved the ultimate equaliser with pro golfer, Becky Kay, exiting the competition after failing to convert a second chance on the Distractor Duel.

Adam Page, who scored a hole-in-one on Fowl Play earlier in the evening, had some of the best putting we’ve seen to date… Right up until the part where he got himself knocked out in a final three-way putt-off. Ben was next to test himself on Frankenputt, taking two putts to get his ball on the checkered green, but there’s no points for second place. In a tense moment that took the audience’s breath away, Jayden’s ball felt the need - the need for speed - sinking straight into the hole and delivering instant Holey Moley glory.

Surfer rides the wave to victory
Beer-man Jesse Earnshaw closes out Holey Moley victory

In a night of thrills, spills and second chances, beer sales rep, avid surfer and groom-to-be, Jesse Earnshaw whitewashed the competition and earned himself a spot in the Grand Final and a chance at winning $100,000.

“I know I look like I’ve just rolled out of the surf, but I can golf. I’m going for the hole in one,” said Jesse of his plans for the upcoming Grand Final.

In the all-important final round, Jesse fiercely battled Aki Fifita and Mackenzie Pullen on Fowl Play. Aki and Mackenzie hit to the right which landed both their balls on the cranky chicken sending them into the drop zone. Jesse saw his ball go straight through the middle, just missing a hole in one, which placed him in a strong position.

Next up, the three made their way across the spinning log. Aki and Mackenzie both slipped off, landing in the tar and feather pit. With his surfer’s balance holding him in good stead, Jesse ran across the log, making him the first competitor in the series to do so. With Jesse’s ball laying just shy of the hole, any easy tap in saw him take the win.

As Jesse received the golden putter and put on his winning jacket, his fiancé Kendra leapt into his arms from the crowd, with Jesse declaring, “we are getting married in this jacket”.

7.00pm Sunday, 7.30pm Monday and Tuesday

Sunday night on Holey Moley : Prepare to witness a legendary battle of mini golf titans, Mr Kunkle and Mr Enthusiastic! And don’t miss the scandal that will rock the very foundations of this game: the first ever disqualification.

An extra episode is being slotted in next week on a Saturday. Officially listed as episode 14, I guess it would have originally have been slated for a better timeslot before the ratings slide.

Could it be highlights of the first three weeks of heats with commentary by Greg Norman himself?

I think there were meant to be 16 episodes in total, correct? If so I’m guessing that the last couple are specials with celebrities or other things that might be used for filler when needed.

That was a special win for Jesse, who lost in the second round but was brought back into the competition after Justin Gange got injured in the same round.

The preview suggested that Mr Enthusiastic celebrated too hard at Putter Ducky and his putter hit his rival’s ball, as he slumped onto the green. I reckon he would be the one who was disqualified.

UPDATE 15/2: Mr Enthusiastic (real name Daniel Kuzeff) had his putt going wide and the ball missed the hole and he slumped onto the green, and his putter hit Emma’s ball. He was disqualified as per the rules, but the commentators just skimmed over it.

Grand Final of Holey Moley

Monday 22 February

This week so far:

Sunday: Tradie’s winning night on the tools

Tom Kunkel swaps the hi-vis for Holey Moley plaid

Heavy machine operator and labourer Tom Kunkel put his beloved Yeppoon on the map tonight after snatching Holey Moley victory in a tense 6-foot putt off.

“It’s like a dream come true. Now it’s time to open the eyes and broaden the shoulders as we have a bigger task to hit,” said the 21-year-old larrikin, who is the seventh golfer to earn a place in the Holey Moley Grand Final. “I’m going out there to prove the local yobbo you see working on the side of the street can make it onto something like this and win it too!”

A golfing fanatic from the age of three, Tom describes himself as a “typical Aussie bogan” with a little city twist. “I’ve got the dirty old mullet. I love strapping on the hi-viz and I’ve got a gold nose ring just to throw a little city touch in there!”

On the final round of the night, Tom, Emma Beauclerc and Daniel Kuzeff went head-to-head on Putter Ducky for the plaid jacket and golden putter. With all three balls putted within range, it was anyone’s game. Daniel’s putt went wide and missed, seemingly taking Emma down with him when he struck her ball with his putter. Course marshal Nick was called in to keep the peace and re-set Emma’s ball, sending Tom and Emma to a tie-breaking 6-foot putt off. First to putt, Emma missed, leaving the door open for Yeppoon’s favourite son to take the win and bask in the glow of Holey Moley glory.

Tomorrow night on Holey Moley : What makes the ultimate mini golfer? It’s brains versus brawn. It’s mind versus muscle. It’s the physically gifted versus the mentally sharp. They’ll go head-to-head, but who will be the first to conquer Uranus?

Monday
Brawn trumps brains in Holey Moley victory - Nik “The Punisher” Papoutsis putts his way to the Grand Final

Fitness professional Nik Papoutsis proved only the strongest reign supreme claiming victory against aeronautical engineer, Hayden Rogers, in a special brains vs brawn edition of entertainment hit, Holey Moley.

“I get the opportunity to play for $100,000 in the Grand Final. I’m super excited, bring it on!,” said the strongman on his win. Nik has been playing golf since he was a junior, earning the nickname “The Punisher” on the golf course for his drive shot which sees his ball travel over 300 metres.

In a night that saw mind vs muscle and well-built vs well-read, competitors faced-off in the ultimate mini golf grudge match where only the smartest and strongest survived. In some knockout plays, personal trainer Jacinta successfully rode Greg the Shark to victory against stunt woman Angie on Putt the Plank. On Dutch Courage, it was Nick vs Hayden with Nick losing some IQ points during his encounter with the windmill. Nik “The Punisher” matched up with Ray “The Hitman” on Slip ‘N Putt which proved a slippery slope for both strong men, while Polina defeated doggie doctor, Tegan, on Parbeque.

In the final round, Nik faced-off against Hayden who successfully used his smarts throughout the competition. Hayden drew on brains and brawn when he managed to make it across the slippery log on Fowl Play in a swift and athletic move, while Nik was sent into the feathery pit below. In the end, after a high-pressured putt off, Nik punished his competitor with brawn triumphing over brains.

Tomorrow night on Holey Moley: There is nothing more Australian than an underdog. With only two places left in the Grand Final, it’s the ultimate showdown: the amateur vs the golf pro. To achieve his dreams, the underdog will have to beat a golf pro. Can the underdog rewrite mini golf history?
