Dan Lakey not live tonight/this morning (only a highlights show) because apparently he has been working too many consecutive days and would’ve had to have been paid more.

Typical SCA pay freeze. Does nothing to improve the on air product and thus, revenue.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is permanent. Even the most generous employee would realize that it’s unsustainable to have someone work mid-dawns five days a week and then follow it up with breakfast the other two days. Danny might be a work-a-holic (as are most of the good talent coming through the regions) but working seven days a week is going to burn him out in no time.

That said a highlights/prerecorded show isn’t the answer - they should find someone else to take on some of the workload. He has a producer, so maybe the producer is available and can do (and self-produce) the Monday morning show. It probably would be as good as the full product, but it would be better than recordings.

She points out audiences are different in each city, and to have one “universal approach” for the network’s music, was never going to be the way to go.

“Audiences are different in every city and it also comes down to what the competitors are doing in each market and what the demographics are.”

Then reinstate market specific formats in regional markets. Double standards. Hypocrites.

“I hate to ruin the art of it but there is a science to it and our music director Kiri for Sydney, she’s just the best in the business,” she says.

Kiri Martin. This is hilarious. Appointed and retained in a Bradbury-esque circumstance. The best have jumped ship years ago. But she’s the best (of those who are left). If you say so…

They do the same in regional markets as what they are doing in the metros like Sydney. Has everyone forgotten the change in Bundaberg recently Sea FM to Triple M and what about the different music formats on Triple M Regional like the Classics Hits format in some markets vs the Greatest Hits from the 70s to Now format in other markets, hardly hypocritical IMO (crankymedia) did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning???

I’m always on the wrong side of the bed when it comes to corner cutting and cost slashing.

2DAY’s format finally taliored for the market. So should the regional stations. All markets will have their differences, their favourite recurrents, new releases that don’t work as well.

which is why 105.1 Triple M in Melbourne has the same format as 105.1 Triple M in Orange.

Regional markets require the same respect as metro markets. Tailor the music and programming to the specific market.

The highest audience and advertising revenue can then be extracted from the station. This applies to all markets, metro and regional.

Haha Lol, I will be on your side for a minute @crankymedia are you saying that the Hits and Old School format that plays in every regional market in Australia, that (H&OS) name should be differentiated in some markets just like how they did it in Adelaide (Hits with Even More Old School All Day) hit 107?

I personally think that radio stations (not just those of SCA, but all broadcasters) should be tailoring their format(s) to what best fits the market - whether it be a metropolitan or regional area.

Radio networks need to allow the individual local broadcasters need to have their format tailored to the demographics of each market and the music/content that their listeners like, etc.

Yes, that is how proper radio is done. SCA might not have been doing it for the last few years, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be done.

Local MD in all markets, it has been done, can be done and is being done by other stations.
