Mix doesn’t do Mix60’s anymore. They stopped a while ago. I’m loving the new focus on local in each market!! Mix has a unique news theme, traffic and weather too which is similar to the hit one, but slightly tweaked. Love it!!
So ARN’s KIIS Network is going more local like SCA’s Hit Network? I didn’t know that.
Any changes to KIIS97.3 to make them sound more local and not so “KIISy” given the recent results?
Mix94.5 in Perth doesn’t do Mix 60s anymore? Or are you talking about ARN’s Mix102.3? I was talking about Mix94.5, seeing as how we’re in the Hit Network forum. Wondering if it’s sister station SAFM is doing anything similar.
Yes, Mix94.5 Perth don’t do Mix60’s anymore.
Just listened to SAFM, they still using Hits You Love From Them To Now. They have the most music workday, which is the same as Mix94.5 Perth.
This year, the team is having an all-nighter in Las Vegas.
If the amount of competition between CHR stations in Melbourne is higher than in other areas, maybe Fox could switch to a classic hits format focusing on music from the 70s to the 2010s, or a country music format to keep it significantly different to Triple M or Gold.
Would it be legal for SCA to buy Magic and replace it with a relay of Fox on 1278 for regional listeners, so that the regional Hit stations can do their own thing.
Huh? Why would the highest rating hit station change for?
I don’t believe stations are allowed to simulcast on two different licences.
And I agree with @David that FOX is the least likely to change format compared to Nova and KIIS since it’s the highest rating of the three.
There is so much wrong here.
Who says there is too much CHR competition in Melbourne? Fact is that Melbourne is the hottest CHR market in the country with the 3 stations combined commanding a higher cume and share than their Sydney counterparts. The competition is fierce because there are so many listeners to go around. Even the lowest rating of the 3 has a significant audience far larger than stations in the other capitals (except Sydney). There’s just no need for any of them to significantly change what they’re doing (although all can make tweaks that would make them better at what they’re already doing).
Secondly, a country format? That’s the format stations go to when they’ve run out of ways to lose listeners? Decades of experience shows it’s not a winner.
As a for 1278, it’s a Metro station with below average coverage. It has very little reach into regional areas beyond what the FM stations have.
Have you been drinking happy juice? Fox still has skin in the game. Country is a format that would never work in Melbourne. Just the thought of the cringe worthy Ray Hadley Country Music Countdown has me breaking out in a cold sweat. Gold help us all.
I have said it before and I will say it again, Magic need to reclaim the name 3XY (Greek Media have no rights to it) and adopt a genuine classic hits 70’s 80’s and 90’s format. Build it and they will come.
Country seems to go fairly well (especially being much more pop-oriented in the last decade or so) in the larger US cities such as Boston (WKLB #4 currently in the overall ratings) and Seattle (KKWF #2) - even in LA (hardly a big country-demographics market), KKGO goes alright with a 1.7 share and a pretty strong cume, again considering the size and demo’s of the market. Honestly country isn’t what it used to be - from what I’ve heard and read it’s very popular with younger women and those with kids in particular and doesn’t sound much different to CHR these days anyway. Even UK has a few country stations from Absolute and others which get reasonable figures!
Yes, and there’s been a few crossover/country artists in the iTunes charts in recent years.
Yes Canada too. Country stations are usually in the top 4 or 5 in the bigger western cities like Calgary and Edmonton.
Someone on that thread doesn’t know “Today Tonight” is no longer on air!
He starts on his new role from Monday 24th July.
The new role marks Speed’s return to SCA, having worked in numerous content roles, including SAFM Adelaide, HIT929 Perth and, most recently, at The FOX in Melbourne as assistant content director, and Hit and Triple M Central Coast content director.
SPEEEEEEDDDDDYYYYYYYYY!!!
Love your work mate
Awesome pick. Will do great in the role!
A brilliant appointment. Hopefully some fresh ideas will revitalise (especially) the Mix94.5 brand and make it shine as a clear #1 once again.
