Well it’s wrestling so obviously bullshit. How bad was the acting? :joy:

This wrestling bs has to be staged. Today Pete was talking about whether he should go in the ring with Mike lmao and getting texts and calls… boring.

Also, less and less of Matt. I think he may be leaving soon.

they’re STILL going on about it?

Mix breakfast definitely has fallen from grace - I can’t see how this helps them gain listeners, if anything this will make them lose listeners.

I definitely do think Matt is leaving soon, the show doesn’t fit him at the moment, and nor is he getting the attention he deserves.

FOX FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick will be attempting a World Record Radio Show with a plan to broadcast live for 27 hours.

Not sure how this is a world record… Jase and PJ were on air for 56 hours.

My understanding from reading the GWR site and listening to a bit of today’s podcast is that there are separate records for solos, pairs, and “teams” (and incidentally, separate records for talk shows and music DJs). GWR are in the business of making as many records as possible as that’s how they make money, after all.

Without actually reading guidelines and whatnot, there would be different rules relating to each type (eg. a solo DJ might be allowed a 10-minute toilet break every hour… I seem to recall something to that effect from the 103-hour solo stint by Matt Fulton from 2MCR a couple decades back).

As far as I can tell, a “teams” record hasn’t been set - so I guess they’re not being disingenuous (apart possibly from Fifi trying to chicken out perhaps)… but given the Kiis Melb one a few years back (and the pairs record now being about 4.5 days), “one breakfast to the next” doesn’t sound too amazing, it’s just that as a team of three, it’s a new category.

It’s all just a thing to play up on Fev’s “catch of football dropped from 220 metres up” world record from last year, in a way though.

The Taylor Swift winner announcement on Carrie & Tommy was the lamest radio I’ve heard. IMO, these national competitions that they pretend are local to each market aren’t at all appetising. The chance of winning is so slim and the winner announcement feels very setup and fake. At least be honest that it’s a national competition and let the country know what city they’re from.

They’re better off focusing on a smaller prize in each market. I didn’t participate in this competition as soon as I read the t&c and realised it was national.

I wonder whether there is really a winner and prize given away at all, that the ‘winner’ is a hired actor / SCA staff member to make it all sound legitimate?

I wonder this as well. I’m also a bit tired of the sob story that comes along with every winner. I feel most of Australia is doing it tough with the cost of living.

Without having the T&Cs in front of me: it would be a breach of state/territory competition law to do this in the manner you describe.

It probably would be a breach, though it would probably be difficult to prove that a prize hasn’t been given.

That’s part of the demo that enter competitions. Those with a more positive outlook are less likely to be entering as they can often just buy the prize if they really want it and aren’t looking to outside sources for fulfillment.

If it was suspected and investigate, it would be on the promoter (ie the radio station) to show how the competition was conducted and prove that the prize was given in accordance with the T&Cs.

2DayFM have a new SMS number and are telling listeners to standby for this Friday (tomorrow).

EDIT: Looks like all Hit metros have it. The next national tactic, with individual text numbers.

Interesting, wonder what it is. Mix has had a text line for a while now and been really pushing it. I do feel they’ll get more interaction if you don’t need to call.

Its not as convenient as NZ’s 3 or 4 digit number but of repeated enough it will be remembered. I know the Fresh927 text number even though ive never used it

Also means they don’t have to put anyone to air, which means you can control the sound of the station just that little bit more. I’d been thinking about that when listening to the likes of BBC Radio 2 in recent times, which certainly does feel very tight in its sound.

It can’t be too snappy a number in Australia as we don’t have short codes or premium text numbers at all, but if it’s got, say, “1041” or “945” or whatever in it (say; Mix Perth does with the latter), people will remember it.

Has it been announced what the text lines are for yet?

Sounds like it will be announced during Carrie & Tommy this afternoon and involve an artist and overseas travel. Possibly Taylor Swift.

You clearly haven’t been listening for the past 4 weeks… They’ve just wrapped up T-Swiz
