The 2021 show sounds the same as the previous attempts since 2016. Fake laughs, planned conversations, hosts not in the same studio, an ever-changing music focus and flat ratings. I am predicting the same fate as the last five years.
Let’s revisit this Radio Today article on the 1st of December 2021.
In the interview Dave Cameron actually says - and I quote “I think with anyone that’s spent a little bit of time in radio, everyone knows that it takes a couple of years to get (a breakfast show) up and running”
F*** me dead. Over the last six years I estimate that they have axed seven breakfast shows after less than a year. Now, they have just worked out that this was a mistake each time. Brilliant. I cannot believe that I bought shares in this shit show in 2014.
They need to clear out all their management and stop being so top-heavy. They keep refreshing the brand and changing shows in the hope that things will turn around. But at the end of the day, there’s no strategy, no target and nothing fresh. And why? Because the same group of people are in charge, just alternating titles and brands.
Saw a second “Another Morning Crew Moment” TVC tonight, this time the “Highlight” used was of Erin Molan describing a dream she had about the Hemsworths.
Not particularly amusing IMO, perhaps one which may work slightly better with 2DayFM’s target demographic but I personally doubt it.
Maybe they should bite the bullet just go for Australia today on 2day FM with Steve Price and the best songs of all time during the day. Then if there is some success they could consider to lure George Moore back to radio and even Alan Jones could do a afternoon show, it will give 2GB something to think about. The overnight show (Luke Bona) on Triple M can move to 2day FM. A bit of promotion. You never know.
Not profitable? @TVHead You might be right. I could be a bit naive as I don’t work in media and never have done so before, just a fan of radio. I am not sure how Steven Price makes money now for the network on DAB without real promotion. However I believe it must make money somehow. Anyway I find he has much more freedom now than he did at 2GB. Also Luke Bona also has a great show too.
I did too wonder if @Laoma was half joking or not, but I too still wonder how long SCA is going to be prepared to put up with low ratings to really just have a HIT station on their national network in Australia’s biggest market?
My gut says 2DAY will always be struggling with their current format for as long as Kyle and Jackie O are on KIIS breakfast - after all it was their defection that caused 2DAYs downfall.
haha well I think its unusual Steve Price has his own DAB station (at the moment anyway). 2GB has virtually no competition. 2SM should be but are not really trying or particular care what GB are doing. And there is a commerical FM station struggling (ie 2Day FM), they already employed one of the ex -GB/AW “stars” . Why not then ? MIX 106.5 tried with Mike Carlton (in the 90s after doing well on 2GB in the 80s), Vega (the first name Smooth FM is Sydney) tried with Angela Catterns (in the 00s after great success on 702) although both had limited success, is it time to try again with 2Day FM? I think Clive Robertson did breakfast back in the early 80s on 2Day FM if my vague memories are correct. After he had a pretty successful talk show on 2BL in the late 70s.
Jackie O clearly is only showing up for the money as the producers were complaining about her playing candy crush on air and not paying attention. Give it time and eventually K&J will ask for more money or leave and it will be 2day all over again but at kiis.
