Hit Network

Fox and B105 seem to be using the same log today.

Who is the male v/o in the first promo?

That’s Phil Lentz. He still does voiceovers for a few stations. 107.3 HFM in Perth, Territory FM in Darwin (last time I listened, at least).

Just air Gawndy and Maz.

Agreed, 2DayFM breakfast is pretty much a lost cause while there are at least four stronger programs on rival Sydney FM radio stations.

If SCA really want a personality led breakfast program back on their Sydney Hit Network station, they might as well go the cheap option and simulcast the Hit Regional NSW brekky show while they continue to wait for the KIIS/Nova/WSFM/Smooth brekky presenters to retire.

RT reckons Jamie Angel and Julia Morris

I definitely agree they should keep Jamie Angel in the mix.

Surely Marty Sheargold has been tapped on the shoulder. I know he’s denied it, but anything is possible.

I can’t him going to 2Day FM, nor doing 6-9am shifts.

Because the question had to be asked eventually, who will present 2DayFM Breakfast in 2021?

  • Jamie Angel and Sophie Monk
  • Jamie Angel and Julia Morris
  • Grant Denyer & Sophie Monk
  • Grant Denyer & Julia Morris
  • Another combination of washed up TV personalities
  • Daniel “Gawndy” Gawned and Maz Compton/Ash Pollard - Hit Regional NSW brekky show simulcast in Sydney

I would’ve added “A genuinely new/exciting Sydney breakfast radio show” as an option, however with 2DayFM’s recent track record in mind that’s very wishful thinking.

It’s Gawndy and Ash Pollard. Bree hasn’t hosted in 3 years.

Thanks for that, I’ve just updated the poll (with apologies to the six who already voted)!

Gawndy and Maz for just Sydney breakfast. Pair Ash Pollard up with someone else for the regional show

I think any proper radio people would be hesitant as heck to sign up for the job. The track record and stability provided by SCA management would be a huge risk.

Probably easier for management to con TV personalities into taking the role up, anything to extend their 15 minutes.

Yeah, you’re probably right.

2DayFM breakfast is now in a similar, if not worse position to the one Mix 106.5 breakfast was in during the Late 2000s and early last decade - between the time Sammy Power (RIP) ended her association with the show/station and ARN poached Kyle & Jackie O to establish KIIS for 2014.

Exactly what the solution is to the current ratings woes of 2DayFM Breakfast (and the station as a whole, at least to some extent), I’m not sure. However I’m fairly confident that reviving any ideas that were tried and failed between 2014 and 2019 isn’t the answer, nor are attempts to emulate the formulas of Sydney FM’s stronger rating, more established brekky shows 2Day is competing against.

SCA got unlucky with the pandemic artificially decreasing their ratings for 2DayFM (not that it would have been a whole lot larger anyways) and all their stations in general.

2DayFM Breakfast would probably do best to keep it’s current “Music For Breakfast” and wait until the pandemic is truly quietening down then see how well it goes. It needs a lot of exposure though - I’m not in Sydney so I don’t really know whether SCA have been doing much advertising the current Music For Breakfast. It also needs time to bed in (as do all breakfast shows) but SCA haven’t proved to be very patient in recent years.

I think it’s pretty obvious to everyone (SCA management included) that 2Day breakfast doesn’t have a chance unless K&J and/or F&W give it up. Music For Breakfast is at least a reason for listeners to even consider changing over - a personality-based breakfast show would be more expensive and is already offered by everyone else.

Unless it’s a singular personality. I think that could work. Someone like Tim Blackwell, Smallzy, or Danny Lakey who could play music, interview people, do phoners and have a personality. Not just music but not just another random assortment of personalities.

So basically what Jamie Angel is doing now?

He isn’t doing a proper show, nor is it branded as such.

What was suggested is literally what he is doing.
