It might just be me, but I feel these to be a little too repetitive and overdone. Fair enough they were a hit overseas, but nothing beats a ballsy or crisp image package.
Heck, even the old NXFM aircheck from the Radio History forum has better sounding imaging than this.
I think this is one of the best jingle packages Iāve heard across all stations in a long time. I recently traveled down south in WA and Hit WA was sounding quite fresh with this packaging. Hit92.9 sounds awful in comparison. I wish theyād hurry up and make the (supposed) changes in Perth.
Fair comment, Iāve never been a real fan of sung jingles, but these actually work very well on-air.
I worked at NX when they changed from the X107 branding and format, we just had spoken sweepers with FX and some music. Thatās what I prefer. Although X107 had some pretty nice sung jingles.
Perhaps theyāll wait for a potential FM restack in Perth to make any changes. But even then Iām not sure if the major commercial stations would change frequencies - somehow I doubt it.
The generic āThis is Hitā IDs work well (even if theyāre very similar to the āThis is Starā IDs from Star 104.5 Central Coast a few years ago), but not so much the 2DayFM/Fox/B105/SAFM versions.
I find 99% of these sung jingles so lame, and most of them are over used across multiple radio stations. The longer 2Day FM ones are a bit cringe and they are basically the Heart UK 2020 jingles. Iām defo not saying they are wonderful and should be used all the time, maybe once or twice an hour.
I know what you mean, I donāt get why stations like KIIS 106.5 use mainly American accent sweepers. And some of them are obviously āfakeā accents. Like this one 1053 NewFM Todays Hit Music Which I donāt think was actually used on air.
Thatās what is most annoying. Theyāre obviously Aussies doing a fake accent. Itās cringeworthy and the most annoying thing about the station. Especially when theyāre talking about something to do with Sydney, Australia or your local area.
It makes me flick to another station. Why do they feel the need to do this?
Imagine if one of your friends walked around with a fake American accent - it would be so annoying.
Yet so many Australian FM radio stations think itās OK.
These are some samples of old Australian station jingles - many of them recored in America. So out of place on this continent. At 32 seconds you get to the first Australia-made jingle and itās for 2NX - and it sounds fantastic. At 1.10 - 2WS - unmistakably Australian.
I used to think it was because we could not record them in Australia - lack of talent or studio facilities. Itās actually just laziness. The smooth jingles are recorded in Australia - itās obvious and they sound great.
The 2DayFM jingles are jarringly American. So many Australian radio stations do not have enough confidence to sound Australian.
It canāt be that. They are recorded in Australia with Australian voice over artists. I know first hand that many of them refuse to do those jobs when they are for the Australian market.
But as with anything, a lot of them are struggling actors and canāt afford to knock the work back. Money talks.
I think you are 100% correct. With these companies like ReelWorld, PURE Jingles, Brandy, Sonic Spring, Wisebuddah and the list goes on and on. They have packages ready to be re-sung and customised with a very fast turnaround. But you end up with an inferior product that may not even be used for a year.
