Hit Network

It might just be me, but I feel these to be a little too repetitive and overdone. Fair enough they were a hit overseas, but nothing beats a ballsy or crisp image package.

Heck, even the old NXFM aircheck from the Radio History forum has better sounding imaging than this.

I think this is one of the best jingle packages I’ve heard across all stations in a long time. I recently traveled down south in WA and Hit WA was sounding quite fresh with this packaging. Hit92.9 sounds awful in comparison. I wish they’d hurry up and make the (supposed) changes in Perth.

Fair comment, I’ve never been a real fan of sung jingles, but these actually work very well on-air.

I worked at NX when they changed from the X107 branding and format, we just had spoken sweepers with FX and some music. That’s what I prefer. Although X107 had some pretty nice sung jingles.

Here’s a couple, I had more on cassette.

One of their biggest mistakes was to re-brand the stations to ā€œhitā€¦ā€ I really hope they change hit106.9 back to 106.9 NXFM

Perhaps they’ll wait for a potential FM restack in Perth to make any changes. But even then I’m not sure if the major commercial stations would change frequencies - somehow I doubt it.

The generic ā€œThis is Hitā€ IDs work well (even if they’re very similar to the ā€œThis is Starā€ IDs from Star 104.5 Central Coast a few years ago), but not so much the 2DayFM/Fox/B105/SAFM versions.

I cringe when I hear Australian jingles from the 1970s that had clear American accents.

So I also cringe when I hear these jingles. I think I am in Sydney but my radio station thinks it’s in Los Angeles.

I find 99% of these sung jingles so lame, and most of them are over used across multiple radio stations. The longer 2Day FM ones are a bit cringe and they are basically the Heart UK 2020 jingles. I’m defo not saying they are wonderful and should be used all the time, maybe once or twice an hour.

And they could be worse like 2Day FM Fiji
2DayFM Fiji Jingle 01
2DayFM Fiji Jingle 02

I know what you mean, I don’t get why stations like KIIS 106.5 use mainly American accent sweepers. And some of them are obviously ā€œfakeā€ accents. Like this one 1053 NewFM Todays Hit Music Which I don’t think was actually used on air.

That’s what is most annoying. They’re obviously Aussies doing a fake accent. It’s cringeworthy and the most annoying thing about the station. Especially when they’re talking about something to do with Sydney, Australia or your local area.

It makes me flick to another station. Why do they feel the need to do this?

Imagine if one of your friends walked around with a fake American accent - it would be so annoying.

Yet so many Australian FM radio stations think it’s OK.

These are some samples of old Australian station jingles - many of them recored in America. So out of place on this continent. At 32 seconds you get to the first Australia-made jingle and it’s for 2NX - and it sounds fantastic. At 1.10 - 2WS - unmistakably Australian.

I used to think it was because we could not record them in Australia - lack of talent or studio facilities. It’s actually just laziness. The smooth jingles are recorded in Australia - it’s obvious and they sound great.

The 2DayFM jingles are jarringly American. So many Australian radio stations do not have enough confidence to sound Australian.

Here’s a vintage long 2DAY FM jingle

Some of the recordings of these stations sound like they are being received by Eskip going by the fading.

It can’t be that. They are recorded in Australia with Australian voice over artists. I know first hand that many of them refuse to do those jobs when they are for the Australian market.

But as with anything, a lot of them are struggling actors and can’t afford to knock the work back. Money talks.

I meant the jingle packages not the voice IDs.

Most of the jingles used to come from PAMS in the US. Now Reel World seems to dominate.

I suppose they are mass produced and low cost compared to the local alternative.

I think you are 100% correct. With these companies like ReelWorld, PURE Jingles, Brandy, Sonic Spring, Wisebuddah and the list goes on and on. They have packages ready to be re-sung and customised with a very fast turnaround. But you end up with an inferior product that may not even be used for a year.

Yes - many of the recordings I made on that vid are from Eskip and other DX enhancement.

Really like the SAFM jingle as the staion name suits the jingle. Can’t say I like the Fox ones though.

I agree, the FOX versions are putrid. A lot of these sung jingles are like that, the words don’t match the music.
