Actually, a Hey Hey roadshow with the original cast members was his original plan pre-COVID. The Hey Hey 50 years and Hey Hey 100 years specials were also supposed to be live shows as well but were changed to a retrospective format due to COVID and cast health issues.
They couldn’t even bother spelling his name right in the headline.
Dear god, let it goooooooo.
He’s going to be tapping on his grave wanting to revive it in 50 years. Just move on
John Blackman passed way according to reports.
Update - as confirmed on TMS.
Blackers was a Mainstay of Saturday Nights on Nine thought the 80’s and 90’s with Dickie Knee being a Favourite of Mine.
We know he has been unwell in recent times, but it is sad to hear this news.
He was pivotal on Hey Hey as a sidekick (in a booth) for the whole time.
RIP John Blackman, who died today aged 76 after an ongoing battle with cancer.
Very sad news. Vale, John Blackman
To have fought so long and been through so much, only to be taken by Heart Attack. A real shame.
Vale
A personal message from Daryl re: John Blackman
Excerpts from 3AW’s Remember When special on Sunday night, with Cecile Blackman and Daryl Somers as special guests.
Dear god!!! When will the bloke just go away.
As if his head could get any bigger.
Congrats Dags!! Well deserved.
It really does seem we’re lost in a Nostalgic dreamworld, or pining for one.
But they could never reboot it successfully IMHO. They’ve tried that before…
Agree with you. Hey Hey will never come back to TV as a live show again, but if a network were to invest in creating something with a similar spirit in-house or produce a local version of a foreign format like, say, The Wheel or Big Show, I think they could find an audience.
I personally think variety still has a place on Australian TV, but networks need to develop something that appeals to and can be accessed by as broad an audience as possible on whatever platform they choose to use.
What about Emdur live or Rove live on a Sunday night?
