Hey Hey It's Saturday

Emdur Live sounds like some kind of televised suppository insertion festival

I would personally like to see a network use an existing ‘iconic’ brand (Nine: In Melbourne Tonight, Seven: Tonight Live, or Saturday Night Live (Licensed from NBC), 10: The Panel, or The Late Show (Licensed from CBS)) and model the format around the ‘basics’ of the original, then update and modernise everything else.

Didn’t Seven try to replicate SNL in 2005 with Let Loose Live?

Larry Emdur is Australia’s very own ‘Guy Smiley’ from Sesame Street/Muppets.

Daryl has more of a Jay Leno vibe.

Yes, they did. The SNL idea may be a bit far-fetched, but I’m just saying the format has had success internationally in the past with many locally produced versions. If Egypt and Russia can adapt it, why can’t we?

Thankfully this is a different award to mark Separation Day in Victoria and run by a different mob. The ustralian of the year award nominations are still open for 2025 so nominate away.

Did anyone know Comedian Peter Rowsthorn hosted Hey Hey in 1998 and Steps performed a banger.

That was 1998 Episode 30 if you’re looking for it on heyhey.tv.

Didn’t he do it twice?

Jo Beth Taylor, Richard Stubbs, and Larry Emdur are the only ones to guest host more than once.

Lano and Woodley also shared hosting duties on Hey Hey It’s Saturday a couple of times, though I’m not entirely sure of the exact episodes. And correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Chuck Wood technically “co-host” with Ossie Ostrich for a brief period as well? I’m certain Denise Drysdale stepped in to host at least once, too.

Also, wasn’t Episode 7 of 1994 the one that supposedly sparked the tension between Daryl Somers and Larry Emdur? From what I remember, a segment went wrong and caused a small fire, and because of that mishap Larry was effectively “banned” from filling in again until Episode 18 in 1998.

i might have watched it once

So what prompted the guest hosts?

Daryl Somers performed in a few theatre productions back in the day which would have taken him away from the show every now and then.
