I wonder if there will be a new special episode of Hard Quiz before Christmas this year, like the kids special or celebrity special?

Promo for tonight.

What a great, and funny, episode tonight.

They also showed us what’s behind those doors when contestants walk off…

Nice to see Shaun Micallef appearing in a cameo.

Tosh Greenslade flew out of the blocks in the first round. During the experts round, he successfully stole three questions during Christie Whelan’s round and reached 75 points, before easing through the next two rounds. Both Christie and Emily struggled through the questions and were eliminated. In the final round, Tosh’s choice of Joe Dirt movie came back to haunt him, as he failed to give the answers on the question on fireworks. Francis Greenslade won the final round.

From Wednesday 8 February 8.00pm

Fighting for Tom Gleeson’s Big Brass Mug are engineer and Lion King fan Jasmine, software engineer and Legend of Zelda player Ed, nanny and smallpox expert Izzy, and dill pickle maker Mikey… who is into antique purses!

Not satisfied with winning the 2021 AACTA Award for Best Comedy Entertainment Program, Tom Gleeson has combed the nation to find a new bunch of self-nominated experts willing to undergo the HARDEST test there is. In each episode, four everyday Aussies will pit themselves not just against each other, but against Australian’s grumpiest quiz show host. Only one can hold aloft the coveted Big Brass Mug!

The contestants’ passions are wilder than ever, from headline news and pop culture classics, through to obscure corners of science, technology, history, politics and the arts. Gold Logie winner Tom Gleeson knows just how to bring the fun to any topic, and you can bet he’ll throw a curve-ball in each week with a specialist topic of his own.

This season includes three ‘Duds’ specials, in which fan favourites who disappeared through the big steel doors will be welcomed back to try their luck again. Which Duds will make the most of their second chance at glory?

Buzzers ready, Australia: it’s time to play, HARD!

Last week’s episode got a mixed review on Gogglebox this week.

Not a parody account, apparently!

Saturday Age deputy editor Cassidy Knowlton took part in this week’s episode. Her expert subject is musical Rent.

Here she recalls how she went.

Hard Quiz Battle of the Influencers

image

Wednesday 20 December 8.00pm

Tom Gleeson takes on four of Australia’s most popular online influencers: @nalopia, @ianz95, @chantyb97, and @Mully. It’s a culture clash of epic proportions, where the only guarantee is utter mayhem!

Tom Gleeson is the quiz show host who once influenced his way to a Gold Logie. How will he cope against a bunch of people who influence people for a living?

They’re four of Australia’s most popular online influencers, with tens of millions of followers between them on TikTok, YouTube and Twitch. They’re here to battle it out in this special ep of Hard Quiz… but unlike regular contestants, they don’t need Tom’s respect. They’ve barely heard of him. Which is fine, because he’s barely heard of them either. Will Tom teach them a lesson about REAL fame, or does he feel the clock tik-tokking on his relevance? The only guaranteed outcome is utter mayhem!

Our influencers are Bridget Chant (TikTok’s @chantyb97), who entertains fans with videos featuring her pet parrot, Hamlet. Does she know her topic, Friends, or will she have to wing it?

Nalopia (@nalopia) normally spends her days gaming and reading books aloud to her legions of followers. But is she game enough to go on this game show with Game of Thrones?

TikTok loves Ian Zaro (@ianz95) for his facial expressions and hilarious comedy sketches, often featuring his energetic dancing. Can he make Beyoncé proud with his Hard Quiz performance?

And Mully (@Mully) broadcasts virtual reality gaming videos to his ten million followers. Will his topic, The Fast and the Furious, see him make a getaway with the Big Brass Mug… or is he about to meet actual reality?
The Hard Quiz Influencers’ special: it’s worth following.

Season 9

From Wednesday 7 February 8.00pm

Tom Gleeson hosts a clash of epic proportions on Hard Quiz! Where else would you see Godzilla go head-to-head with Marilyn Monroe, Swan Lake, and the whale shark? Nowhere, that’s where.

HARD QUIZ is back!

Fresh from barnstorming his way around Australia with a live version of the nation’s favourite quiz show, Gold Logie-winning comedian Tom Gleeson has managed to herd a new bunch of self-described experts into the hallowed ABC studios to undergo the HARDEST challenge in TV, or probably the whole world.

In each episode of Hard Quiz, Tom welcomes four Australians who are perfectly ordinary, except for one thing: they are REALLY into one special topic. By showing off their knowledge and successfully taking on TV’s grouchiest host, one competitor will be crowned Hard Quiz Champion and hoist aloft the coveted Big Brass Mug!
There’s no telling what topics Tom’s contestants will drag in with them, from fan-favourite movie stars and rock bands, through to historical events, wildlife, gaming, obscure hobbies, and culture that’s so low-brow that it’s lucky to be on the ABC at all. For the contestants, trouble lies ahead in the form of Tom’s own mystery round. What has he really been getting into this week?

Hard Quiz’s ninth season includes three ‘Duds’ specials, in which Tom welcomes back four fan favourites who were previously dispatched through the big steel doors before they had time to shine. Having learned their lessons, which Duds will make the most of their second chance to wow the nation?
