Great songs heard on radio

Would have been an FM104 staple I’m sure. The 80s Moody Blues stuff got a thrashing I’m told.

The Breeze with Lloyd Cole and the Commotions and Jennifer She Said; another rare one - artist and song.

Had a listen to ‘Nights With Dave Gleeson’ on Triple M tonight, first time in quite a while!

In the first two hours, only really heard one song that makes this list.

In The Stars - Rolling Stones (a new song, a good one it is too, haven’t heard it before).

The ‘Classic 9 at 9’ was better. Tonight’s theme was ‘Liquor Tracks’ (or ‘Drinking Songs’ as I’d call them, which I can relate to!). These four songs from it make the cut for me.

9. Champagne Supernova – Oasis

8. Roadhouse Blues – The Doors

4. One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer – George Thorogood & The Destroyers

2. Closing Time – Semisonic

(they also played a snippet of Slim Dusty’s ‘Duncan’, but alas, not the whole song)

nb. the other five songs in the Classic 9 at 9 are as below, still good, but probably overplayed for some

7. Tubthumping – Chumbawumba

6. Piano Man – Billy Joel

5. Black Fingernails, Red Wine – Eskimo Joe

3. Red Red Wine – UB40

1. Cheap Wine – Cold Chisel

Personally I think this song should be in Oh no, not that song again

Yes, I can’t stand ‘Tubthumping’ now.

I remember it was played on JJJ well before it became a massive hit. The same happened with ‘Walkin’ On The Sun’ by Smash Mouth.

Blasphemy, both of these slap and are great songs in my books :stuck_out_tongue:
Each to their own of course

Chumbawumba had a follow up single but I cannot remember for the life of me what it’s called.

Simple Minds - Someone somewhere in summertime, Bridge 99.7 just now

Inspired me to go and give New Gold Dream a spin. Great track from a great album

I like ‘Walkin’ On The Sun’; I was merely commenting that both it and ‘Tubthumping’ were big JJJ hits before cracking mainstream radio.

(I don’t like ‘Tubthumping’, though, but ‘Amnesia’ is a cracking song that I do play on my show. Evidently, nobody got Mechie’s obvious joke at first blush).

I remember this too because I had a co worker back then who listened to Triple J and I’d hear both of these songs , about late 1997 to early 1998

Ahhh, I deliberately did that……or did I?

Well I didn’t know it was called that until I saw the post below yours!

So I wouldn’t have remembered!

And gather others might not either given it only got to #34 in the ARIA charts here back in 1998.
