The Innocents - “Sooner Or Later”

On 2NUR this morning. It sounded familiar and I was trying to work out where I’d heard it before. Then I realised it was on a 1980 episode of Countdown that was repeated on rage goes retro a few years ago.

A staple of Triple M, who seem to have forgotten what rock means recently.

Farq I’m old.

That and ‘Somebody Told Me’ from the Killers are of the same vintage, both thrashed on Nova and the Ms when new.

Only Rebel would play that these days. Used to be a JJJ staple in the ‘rock against Bush’ era of 2003.

I have noticed Riot FM have a penchant for NOFX too, so it would probably get a run there.

Yes Riot sure plays a lot of NOFX, and yeah I’ve heard probably 70% of the entire NOFX discography on Riot FM, they’re a really good band so I can see why. And with Rebel there’s definitely a theme going on with certain songs they’re playing today.

Just recently on Double J

Buffalo Stance - Neneh Cherry (1989)

One of my favourite songs from the late eighties periods that was played repeatedly on rotation on Triple J in the first year of their national rollout. Still has aged well to this day.

As played on The Conga Line on NYD, as part of the ‘Classic Emo’ Missing Six.

(Yes, not technically Emo, but it has all the elements).

It’s a great song nonetheless no matter what genre the song is, I really enjoy your show Billy Bob!

Also a Conga Line Classic.

Love how Rebel can play softer stuff like Heart and it still fits well.

‘Rumble’ by You Am I is also one of the best two minutes of music anyone has mustered; takes me right back to 9inety6ix.1 in 1998 (I’ve only ever heard it regularly on there),

Conga Line is one of my personal favourite radio shows, and yes I agree that even the softer songs fit well with Rebel. They somehow manage to be eclectic without being overly jarring, that’s what I love about their active rock format. And yeah that You Am I song is amazing! I think you’d be a good host for Rebel FM given your knowledge of music as a whole and your great taste too for the deeper cuts.

Some absolute bangers on that Rebel list.
When The Night Comes is Joe Cocker’s best song IMO. The Dire Straits song is a rare gem, as is Heaven For Everyone by Queen.
