Great songs heard on radio

Don’t know if anyone’s noticed but the text font and colours in that Forever Classic 60s logo seem to be to the tune of Gold101.7’s new Just Great Songs positioner!

Yeah I agree although I am fan of the 80s era, when I listen to all 80s station I want to hear some 60, 70 and 90s.

Yes agree. I’m generally not a fan of decades stations

Decades stations can be good with a decent variety of music - when Mix 80s first started on DAB, it was a great listen but the current Gold 80s version isn’t as good, a bit too safe and predictable like most commercial stations are.

Some good ones tonight

Where The Wild Roses Grow - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
(on 89.9 Pulse FM Hawkesbury)

Sometimes Love Just Ain’t Enough - Patti Smyth & Don Henley
(on 90.5 2HD Belmont North - as part of Super Radio Network programing)

When We Was Fab - George Harrison
(on 96.3 Coast FM Gosford)

Cherry Blossom - Empire Of The Sun
(on i98fm Wollongong)

That’s flavour of the month at the moment. Also heard on Inphase and The Conga Line (independently!) recently.

Was a massive hit at the time and one I remember fondly from my Rage watching days in Kindergarten. But you rarely hear it now (except for April 2025, apparently).

A couple from yesterday as I watched the Titans Raiders match, from 94.1 Cold Ghost’s ‘Across The Ditch’ programme which is all Kiwi music:

Push Push- Trippin’
Supergroove- Can’t Get Enough

Both certified Mechie Show (2VTR) classics and also heard on The Conga Line.

Cobra Starship - You make me feel - on Move FM 107.9

Great track - perfect for a station that promises to play ‘hits that make you move’. Superb synth-dance/pop that debuted at number 1 in Aotearoa on July 4 2011 (made it to #3 in that other country across the ditch).

I hope the people of Lithgow lapped it up. Move FM could be onto something… taking this awesome track out of the freezer for the winter. Let’s hope they start thrashing the living daylights out of it… and in nightclubs across the Blue Mountains it becomes the signature tune of Pepsi Electric drinkers.

And if I listen, I can hear you through my radio
In that bright white noise
What I been missin’ in my life, what I been dreamin’ of
You’ll be that girl, you’ll be that girl

Used on promos for My Kitchen Rules (while still in its infancy then, it was rating through the roof) in 2012, though they stuck with “Tik Tok” by Ke$ha (another great song) as the opening song for all episodes until it changed to Justice Crew’s “Best Night” in 2013.

Who could also forget “Good Girls Go Bad” which was released in the second half of 2009?

Flo Rida - Club Can’t Handle Me, also comes to mind.

A great party anthem from 2012.

On the Nova 937, they played that song Stronger by Britney Spears. Such a catchy tune.
As well, on the 720 ABC Perth, they played Our House by Madness. That song also used for the Chemist Warehouse commercials.

She is often unfairly much maligned, but does know how to put out some catchy tunes.

Though it’s her less popular/played ones that are my favourites, “Sometimes”, “Born To Make You Happy” and “Toxic”.

On CoastFM:

Alice Cooper - “How You Gonna See Me Now”

I never knew that he did such great ballads!

Yes he did a few- my favourite is ‘You & Me’, a bit of a 2CA special in its day and probably on FC 70s now.

Listened to a bit of South Coast FM (3MFM) last night as I caught the end of the Storm game. They were airing a show that featured 80s compilations- a great idea. Last night they were doing one from 1989.

Plenty of good songs played but the highlight was the certified Billy Bob classic ‘Nobody’s Perfect’ by Mike & The Mechanics and the rarely heard Noiseworks tune ‘Voice Of Reason’.

Sweet- Blockbuster
Five Man Electrical Band- Signs
Brian Cadd- Ginger Man

All on FC70s today. The only mainstream hit they played during the time I listened was a good one too, ‘ Running On Empty’ by Mr Browne.

Heard “Spending My Time” by Roxette at my local Woolworths in Maitland when I was doing my errands this morning. One of the much loved songs from the Swedish band from their highly successful 1991 album “Joyride” although I do wish that the other stations would play the songs from their “Crash Boom Bang” or “Have a Nice Day” albums as those albums have such good deep cuts.

They had a lot of great hits. I heard Fading Like A Flower today on 4BH

Yesterday when I was at Woolworths, they played a good song ‘Rock it’ by Little Red (Acoustic version). Shame that this Australian band was disbanded in mid 2012.
