Great songs heard on radio

It got to #73 in the charts. It did appear on the 1985 Let’s Go compilation, and I do recall hearing it a fair bit back then (when we had a locally programmed commercial AM station) as I always used to think they sang Shell Shop instead of shell shock.

Yeah, wasn’t sure if you played it (I suspected so, and it’s probably where I heard it).

Once again @TV-Expert outdoes himself. I’m sure @Mechsta is a little spooked by the intimate knowledge of his broadcasting career!

You forgot Braidwood FM from 2022. Show is currently on an extended break.

I’ll admit that I did think about adding that bit of info too.

Braidwood has only ever had the prog rock version of The Mechie Show, so you’re still in High Distinction territory!

Push the tempo - Sub focus, Katy B heard today on Fresh Hits and Dance Hits.

Heard right now on ch501, Black Caps live from Seddon Park.

Another song worth checking out:

People watching - Sam Fender heard on Fresh Hits & OMG, great song, very catchy, amazing vocals, very similar to Brandon Flowers, soulful, rocky and powerful.

I was in Woolworths shopping and they played that song, Love Song from Amiel. They played this clean version of Love Song (2003).

To maintain the store theme, Cry - The Mavis’s on Coles Radio a couple days ago when I was doing shopping in store.

Nice.

I’ve added that track to my ‘Classic Aussie Pub Rock’ playlist on Spotify.

Alongside Disco Montega.

Add my vote to that one too.

Meanwhile, heard 28 Days - What’s The Deal this morning on Rebel. Was absolutely one I had tape-recorded off K-Rock back in about 2002 and thrashed to death in the walkman - a tune that really takes me back

The beer is not ice cold these days, nor is it sold from a supermarket that keep its prices down. But a great track too.

I’m listening to the Breeze tonight, as it’s been highly recommended by other forum members. And I’m not disappointed! Some of the awesome songs I’ve heard…

Troy Newman - Love Gets Rough
Marc Hunter - Island Nights
The Alan Parsons Project - I Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You
Double - The Captain Of Her Heart
The Beatles - She Loves You

Why can’t all stations be this adventurous?

Yep agree. They deliver that sort of stuff day in, day out too.

Exactly. Sadly, most of our existing commercial radio operators treat their listeners like mugs by playing Summer of ‘69 and other overplayed tunes at least three times a day.

I quite like Donna Lynch - she’s worth listening to, but music-wise I often find the Breeze plays a lot of crap. There’s a reason why Troy Newman never had any top 20 hits. The Breeze’s playlist is way too eclectic - so much so it lacks a decent commercial sound. You have to check the dial to make sure you’re not listening to some community outfit.

Straight out of the news at the top of the hour they should be playing a ‘power’ hit, music is powerful and they should be showcasing more great music, not obscure lightweight little high-pitched self-indulgent numbers like ‘Island Nights’.
