Great songs heard on radio

The Mowgli’s - Alone sometimes RIM FM 100.1

Heard Feels Like Woah - Wes Carr at Woolworths Maitland when I was doing some errands today. This song would also be the theme song for the 2009 NRL Season which the premiership winning team the Melbourne Storm would “win” their third premiership before being later stripped due to salary cap breaches.

Later at Pender Place I heard “Music Box Dancer” by Frank Mills, a famous instrumental piece which charted at 14 on the Kent Music Chart in 1979 and could still be heard from ice cream trucks in the United States.

Treading water - Natasha Kate right now on Broad Radio - Tracee Hutchison says ‘getting plenty of plays on the jays, and we’re loving it here as well’.

I like it when other radio stations are referred to on-air. Such a ‘no-no’ in this country but I’ve never understood why.

Because stations don’t trust each other to do the same? Too competitive? A bit of both probably.

Yes. Plus I think the Australian market generally doesn’t like to mention rivals. If you look at our advertising that is certainly the case. The recent TVC with Shark cordless comparing itself to Dyson is a rare exception.

It’s amazing watching NFL on FOX or CBS and there they are saying ‘coming up tonight on NBC’ or ‘tomorrow night on ESPN’.

Getting back to radio, it’s almost like a taboo in this country not to mention rivals. Like you say, it probably comes down to trust, so we try and pretend they do not exist.

Apparently it’s in the broadcast contract with the NFL that they have to promote each other’s games.

Daryl Braithwaite- Let Me Be

IGA radio this morning. I really wish this was on DAB or even streaming. It really whips the llama’s ass…or at least, that of Coles.

Agree, that’s (along with Rise) is probably my favourite Dazza song.

But I’ll be blown away if anyone plays the Cats Under Pressure original.

‘Rise’ is a cover too; the original is by Chosen Few. I’ve played the Chosen Few version a few times on The Conga Line.

Will have to check out the Cats Under Pressure version of Let Me Be, though I may have heard it in passing.

The CUP version of “Let Me Be” was a very very very… minor… hit… perhaps a “tap”, rather than a “hit”

I do recall playing the Cats Under Pressure version on the Alive 90.5 incarnation of The Mechie Show some years back.

Oh I didn’t know you were on Alive before VTR/BBB.

What year(s) would that have been?

@Mechsta was doing The Mechie Show on Alive 90.5 from 2014 to 2016. The show started on Hawkesbury Radio (2VTR) from 2005 and aired on the station until 2012. The show has been airing on 2BBB since 2017.

I’m still devastated after learning ‘All I do’ is also a remake.
