Great songs heard on radio

Close. I’m currently a Kube Media devotee. Dance Hits.

You don’t know that because it’s NEVER been tried. In my opinion it would rate much, much higher.

The only mainstream FM station that has ever been as adventurous and played a depth of music that compares to Breeze was FM104 in Brisbane in the 80s, and we all know how that rated - up to 37%

The problem with all that “research” is that it’s not backed up by actual facts, until it’s tried. Until you put a Breeze FM format on in a capital city it’s all just consultants’ waffle.

But if it doesn’t work on the Gold Coast, why would in work in Brisbane?

And no, the Breeze is nothing like FM104. I knew FM104, and Breeze… you are no FM104.

What makes you think it’s not working on the Gold Coast? It’s not in the ratings but would make up a big chunk of the “other” figure. It’s not even an official Gold Coast station and only truly covers the hinterland, so what are you even talking about?

Indeed. And how big is the other figure?

I know that listening to the Breeze is a fun little exotic exercise for something that sounds off-beat and unique, but in reality it’s just a bumpkin station that is badly programmed.

I think something that is a blend of Gold and Breeze would sound good…

Yes, keep some of the better known songs that Gold plays, but intersperse it with the rarer stuff that Breeze plays. That would also mean that the more common fodder won’t sound so repetitive.

Ahhh! Yes, now we’re talking!

Is River a bit like this then? When Rob McCasker was on River last year it really reeked of FM104 vibes. Jocks who know their music is a big part of making ‘great songs heard on radio’.

Last survey it was 28.8%

The Conga Line is a bit of an acquired taste as well, but I don’t compromise on the eclectic format because it’s something I enjoy doing. That’s what community radio is there for.

Breeze occupies its niche very well imo. It’s a remote area broadcaster and will never aspire to chase the bright lights of a big cap city station. There are many more options for those who want a safer mix; let the music nerds have a little station to call their own.

Is this The Breeze 100.6 in Qld?

Yeah. Or 92.1 in Beauie.

I’ll be streaming from Melbourne, just wanted to get the right Breeze!

Yep 100.6 is the Gold Coast, and 92.1 is Logan/Beaudesert, it’s the same music and announcers but you might find the GC ads more entertaining than the Logan ones :grinning:

Not to mention that Breeze’s (as well as Rebel’s) Gold Coast online stream is available in high-quality mode (160kbps).

Heard some cracking songs on 2NUR FM Newcastle Yesterday morning with the songs from 1991 as part of their “Time Tunnel” programme.

Rod Stuart featuring Tina Turner - It Takes Two
James Reyne - Any Day Above Ground
Noiseworks - Hot Chilli Woman

And of course the song that stuck up to me was

Enigma - Sadeness (Part 1).

They do play some great songs.

Us Novocastrians/Lakers/Coasters have some great community radio stations in and around here. The only ones I don’t listen to at all are 2RPH, Rhema and Today’s Country. Lake Macquarie FM I’d listen more of if it was stereo.

When the TV series “A Place to Call Home” moved from Seven to Foxtel, one of the stars of that show appeared in an interview on Seven’s now-defunct The Daily Edition to promote it, proudly proclaiming it is on Foxtel. Obviously this is a paid piece, and ironic Seven promoting a show on Foxtel that Seven axed.

You wouldn’t think Enigma is fit for radio.

Two Aussie oldies just played on Coast FM 963 (Central Coast):

Child’s Play - Sherbet (instead of the usual ‘Howzat’ and ‘Summer Love’).
Keep on Smiling - John Paul Young (instead of the usual ‘Love is in the Air’ and ‘Yesterday’s Hero’).

Great to hear lesser known hits from these artists.
