One of my favourites from yesteryear.
The quintessential yacht rock track for mine. It has all the elements (sax, mellow vocals, the atmosphere of regretfully leaving a sleazy motel at 3 AM).
I think of yacht rock more as Christopher Cross, but what you do in your personal time is up to you⌠hahaha just kidding
Some great lost 1993 tunes from tonightâs Retro 20/20 Countdown on 7HO Classic Hits DAB.
Little Bird - Annie Lennox
Happy Birthday Helen - Things Of Stone And Wood
Ordinary World - Duran Duran
How Do You Talk To An Angel - The Heights
Steam - Peter Gabriel
You Ainât Thinking About Me - Sonia Dada
Constant Craving - KD Lang
Um:
At least it rhymes with Moorabbin.
For anyone curious SWR does not have Happy Birthday Helen in rotation but does have Accidently Kelly Street in rotation
Heard this excellent song from Paul Carrack (formerly of Mike + The Mechanics) on 2NUR FM Newcastle not too long ago.
Back in 2RE country this morning⌠another great playlist this morning (sorry, i wasnât able to take notes)âŚbut two standouts from memory -
Psychedellic Furs - Love My Way
Bang The Drum - Only You
Wide Boy - Nik Kershaw on 2ST Retro Countdown.
They played some great ones tonight, the theme being 1985.
I also heard (via 7BU Burnie)
Rock And Roll Girls - John Fogarty
50 Years - Uncanny X-Men
We Are The World - USA For Africa
According to Lava, I missed earlier (whilst out to dinner)
Youâre So Strong - Mental As Anything
Walls Come Tumbling Down - The Style Council
Loverboy - Billy Ocean
Speak No Evil - Dragon
Wrong thread, though rarely heard these days.
(I would rather hear the Weird Al parody, âDonât Download This Songâ).
Some great rare songs on tonightâs âRetro 20/20 Countdownâ on the ARN regional log. The theme tonight being this week in 1986.
Youâre A Friend Of Mine â Clarence Clemons & Jackson Browne
No One Is To Blame â Howard Jones
I Knew The Bride When She Used To Rock n Roll â Nick Lowe
Suspicious Minds â Fine Young Cannibals
Absolute Beginners â David Bowie
Russians â Sting
Concrete And Clay â Martin Plaza
And a honourable mention for also playing Cliff Richardâs âLiving Dollâ, but alas, it was the original version from 1959, not the one with the Young Ones TV show cast.
But still, I canât remember the last time I heard a song from the 50s on commercial radio! Do ACE Radio (2UE, Magic, 4BH), Cruise or 3MP ever play anything from then?
This one is certainly living at the moment. Both versions have aired on âMartinâs Morning Mixâ this week (Braidwood FM).
I have heard Chantilly Lace - The Big Bopper from 1958 (a song I previously associated with 3KZ - it was featured in one of its commercials) on Magicâs Saturday Night Jukebox show recently.
4BH play Elvis sometimes, not much else from the â50s though.
Before my time anyway
Southern Contemporary Rock Assembly- Roly Poly
QBN FM tonight, general automation. The one gem in amongst a sea of country and other less inspired selections.
