I remember this song from Good Morning Vietnam.
Iâve played âFive OâClock Worldâ as a SMOKINâ OLDIE on my show. Great song, even if it doesnât apply so much these days (most people work beyond 1700!)
Yes. I remember hearing about how she was going to be a big star and then itâs been crickets since then.
George Bensonâs Breezinâ on Sunshine FM. Used to get a lot of play on the first commercial FM stations.
Most famously, it was the first song on Fox FM when it launched in 1980 (where the intro was played at the wrong speed)
Gold 104.3 are doing a countdown of the best songs of 1984 today, and some good ones have been played:
A Beat for You - Pseudo Echo
Wild Boys - Duran Duran
Freedom - Wham
EDIT: Played later
Self Control - Laura Branigan
Victims - Culture Club
Pseudo Echo song is great!
A Beat For You was thrashed on 2SM in 1984. How do I know this? From listening to a few of @Franksterâs airchecks that I saved.
A Beat for You is one of those songs that sounds way better on a slightly higher pitch. So much so that it is almost unlistenable at normal speed once youâve heard it at the higher pitch. I think 2SM used to play it this way.
They have some great songs that are a better listen than the overplayed Funky Town cover.
Like that one, Listening, Love An Adventure, Donât Go, Stranger In Me and Living In A Dream
Currently on Triple M 102.9 Newcastle Iâm hearing
Bent - Matchbox Twenty as part of the MMM Regionalsâ version of Double Shot Tuesday.
Charted at 19 on the Aria charts in 2000 and one of the lesser played songs on radio in their discography.
I like that Culture Club song toođ
2LT Lithgow play some good songs when theyâre not relaying 2GB talk (which sadly is a lot of the time). Heard these two back to back last night on their Blue Mountains 101.1 FM relay before 8pm
The Nips Are Getting Better - Mental As Anything
Canât Wait To See You - Eurogliders
Ditto for 2BS; their music mix outside of the networked shite is fairly similar to Breeze (4BRZ).
I would be very happy if the Capital Radio Network bought 2LT and turned it into Forever Classic.
2LT 101.1 comes in quite well here on the TEF radio and has reasonable stereo sound.
âForever Classic 2LTâ has a nice ring to it. âFrom the top of Mount Lambie and all across Lithgoviaâ does, too.
Some good ones today
SWR 99.9 Awesome 80s
Kiss N Tell â Bryan Ferry
Pink Cadillac â Natalie Cole
Forever Live And Die â OMD
I Canât Wait â Nu Shooz
What Have I Done To Deserve This â Pet Shop Boys & Dusty Springfield
Fresh â Kool & The Gang
Human â Human League
Living In America â James Brown
GNFM Saturday Night Party Mix
Now Youâre In Heaven â Julian Lennon
Computer Games â Mi-Sex
Donât Go â Pseudo Echo
The Way â Fastball
Healing Hands â Elton John
Bridge To Your Heart â Wax
Leaps And Bounds â Paul Kelly & The Messengers
And Iâve been hearing this one quite a bit lately - heard it on GNFM tonight. Not sure why it seems to have made a comeback of sorts latelyâŠ
Puttin On The Ritz â Taco
Maybe theyâre just going where fashion sits.
Iâll still listen to it with my high hat and arrow collars
Been hearing âRun to Youâ by Bryan Adams on a few stations recently, particularly Triple M 80s and WSFM. Pretty good song if you ask me
