Time by Pink Floyd got played on Dave Gleeson’s show tonight! It was in the ‘Classic 9 at 9’ with the theme being songs with sound effects. Second time I’ve heard that one this month.

At 1:12 PM today on 2MMM 104.9 FM (Triple M Sydney) I heard Australiana by Austen Tayshus. Still a classic spoken word single with Aussie puns!

I’m a bit surprised Triple M don’t play more songs like that… it’s very blokey and “boganey” and it would suit their demos to the core.
Same with playing bits of the 12th Man, maybe even bits of Rodney Rude?
And Chris Franklin’s parody of the Meredith Brooks song “Bitch” is another (as below)… I love this one!

Triple M Gold Coast are playing double Paul McCartney songs across the day ahead of his Gold Coast concert tonight. Unusual by a pleasant surprise to hear songs from the 70s especially 60s from The Beatles and Wings.

I can see 104.1 in Sydney become “2TAY FM” for a day and go all Taylor Swift for a few hours! (hope no one from SCA is reading this thread…)

This is going back a bit, but no doubt some on here will remember P!nk Radio on DAB from around 2009-10. Then there was Classic Hits Plus which featured all Beatles music for a time (though if any artist deserves a dedicated station, it’s the Fab Four).

2UE (then under Fairfax ownership) used to run a dedicated station for The Beatles called “FAB-4”. Likewise for 4BH in Brisbane (also under Fairfax ownership at the time), who ran “4FAB”.
This was in the very early years of DAB+ in Australia (ie. 2009-10).

Just heard the song ‘Lemon’ by U2 on C91.3 Campbelltown, NSW.
Not sure why I’ve never heard of this song on the radio previously.
Released on the Zooropa album back in 1993. 30 years ago…
Did it not get much airplay previously?
It’s a great song, video clip on Youtube too.
Good on C91.3 for playing this song.

It got a bit of airplay in the 90s (along with ‘Numb’ from the same album) but it’s very rare to hear it now. Both ‘Lemon’ and ‘Numb’ get a run on my show.

Now would be a good time to give Wayne Mac’s ‘Retro Stream’ a plug. It specialises in forgotten radio hits. It only runs during the weekend but is curated by Wayne himself, so the music flows well together. This weekend he’s doing a ‘90’s and beyond’ feature:
