Great songs heard on radio

Young Turks- Rod Stewart on 2ST this afternoon. Always liked that song and love the film clip even more.

Another rare one on Mix 106.3 yesterday, this time in ‘Nigel’s Mixtape’ after 9 AM:

Kansas- Carry On Wayward Son

I don’t think I’ve ever heard this on Australian commercial radio. It’s very popular in the US, however.

It’s extremely popular in the US and gets played all the time.

I’ve heard it on Rebel on occasion.

Dust in the Wind is the other one that gets huge airplay in the US. I’ve heard that one on Breeze.

I may have heard it on the M’s once before.

This is what we call on the Mechie Show “commercialised Prog”

You could label a lot of the Alan Parsons Project catalogue commercial prog, yet only a couple of songs get played. The only station that plays a varied selection of APP is Radio Caroline. For most stations it’s basically just ‘Eye In The Sky’ (sans Sirius) and maybe ‘Games People Play’ on very rare occasions.

Both great songs - especially when Eye In The Sky is preceded by Sirius. I’m always disappointed with my iPod as I downloaded Sirius and can’t get it to play just before Eye In The Sky

Same deal with my liked songs on Spotify.

I remember from reading their playlists online that 4KQ used to play that song quite a bit.

Tender Is The Night / Jackson Browne - probably my favourite of his although I do like a few.

Followed a couple of songs later by Will You Be There / Heart - one of their rarer ones that I really like too!

On the Breeze.

AT FORWARD, FROM CENTRAL ARKANSAS, 6-7, SCOTTIE PIPPEN…sorry I just couldn’t resist knowing that Sirius is always linked with the Golden Era 90’s Chicago Bulls.

Should be used for the Canterbury Bull-dogs…because Sirius is also known as the ‘dog star’.

I forget the Chicago Bulls association tbh; was always more of a Shaq fan growing up in the 90s.

Suzanne Vega - Left of Centre (1986, from the Pretty in Pink soundtrack which I have on vinyl) on Magic 1278 right now.

No Myth - Michael Penn

Fantastic song out of the vault!

Agree! Shame he only had a couple of hits… “This And That” was his other one I think.

At that very minute, possibly the only station playing ‘No Myth’ between the poles and the equator.

Great track.

I heard “Love Me Do” by The Beatles on Woolworths Radio this morning, which really surprised me. Considering it was preceded by the latest hit from Harry Styles, that’s what I’d call real music variety - from 1962 to 2022.

Real music variety, only on Woolworths Radio.

Stations like the Breeze do this quite often. I heard Shiver / Ed Sheeran followed by Rain / Beatles yesterday on Breeze Gold Coast. Sounded great to me. BBC R2 do this all the time too.

Solitaire / Laura Branigan on Breeze. Probably my favourite of hers. What a cracker of a song!

They also played What It Is / Mark Knopfler earlier - haven’t heard that one for a while.
