Great songs heard on radio

Lol. Yes. It was an FM104 staple

Hazy Shade Of Winter - The Bangles

Now Playing on WSFM 80s DAB.

Much underplayed song of theirs.

Bird of Paradise / Snowy White
Back to Good / Matchbox 20

Back to back right now on Radio Caroline’s overnight 'mellow’show.

Bird of Paradise was played a lot on FM104 quite a bit and the Matchbox 20 song is one of theirs I actually love.

Do yourself a favour and have a listen to Radio Caroline

‘Bird Of Paradise’ seems to be a common one on Caroline. Perhaps the presenter of the mellow show loves it. I just love their music and style of presentation. What I hope to imitate when I get my own show (and the music will be similar, too).

Culture Beat - Mr. Vain just played on Mix 106.3. The main reason why I regularly pay attention to this song on-air is because nearly every station in Australia plays the “no rap” version, which strangely never saw a commercial release locally.

(I obtained the above from someone who owned the US radio promo-only CD which included that exact version)

Black Stick - The Cruel Sea.

Now playing on KIIS90s, not the first time I’ve heard it on here either. I think this song was discussed in here a few weeks ago.

You’re So Vain - Chocolate Starfish

Now Playing on Triple M Sydney during their “Aussie” program.

Another great 90s band that radio has mostly forgotten that should be played more often.

Though I would have been even happier if they had played “Mountain” or “Four Letter Word”.

Wait - Gyan

Now Playing on WSFM 80s.

A one hit Aussie wonder from the early 90s.

Another great song Aussie radio has forgotten.

Not sure what’s more likely…Triple M playing those songs or me flying my lear jet up to Nova Scotia to see a solar eclipse…

That was actually released in July 1989 & entered the ARIA Top 50 in September that year.

Apparently, part of the music video (the coastal shots in B&W) is filmed at around Kiama.

The Chain by Fleetwood Mac on 4GR, so assuming it was on the rest of the “Greatest Hits” network.

I did hear ‘Four Letter Word’ by Chocolate Starfish on Power FM Nowra a good while back…took me completely by surprise. This would have been in the early part of the 2010s. ‘Mountain’ was thrashed to death in 1994 but you don’t hear it much these days.

That cover of You’re so Vain is one of my earliest musical memories, I remember it being played all the time (so much so I never knew it was a cover until years later). Would have been 1993 or so as a guess?

Mountain too was everywhere at the time, yet as you say has mysteriously disappeared since. Sad too, great song

Hazy Shade Of Winter - The Bangles

Gold play that a fair bit. Speaking of, they’ve been playing some real gems since they brought back their no repeat workday earlier this year. Runs Monday-Sunday from 6am-6pm.

Fortress Round Your Heart - Sting
Too Late For Goodbyes - Julian Lennon

Just played back to back on Radio Northern Beaches 88.7 (and 90.3) .

Great 80s songs rarely played on radio!.

Which frequency do you tune into?

88.7 for me… 90.3 is very faint here, 88.7 is fair (not very strong), but listenable mono.
