GOGGLEBOX AUSTRALIA - SEASON 6

PREMIERES

Wednesday 4 October at 7.30pm on Lifestyle
Thursday 5 October at 8.30pm on Ten

The two-time TV WEEK Logie Award-winning show about people watching television, Gogglebox Australia, will return to our screens on Wednesday, October 4, at 7.30pm on Foxtel’s Lifestyle channel and streaming on Foxtel Now, and broadcast the following day, Thursday October 5, at 8.30pm on Network Ten.

Gogglebox Australia holds the record as the #1 audience in the Lifestyle channel’s history. The fifth season earlier this year drew about 900,000 capital-city television and online viewers each week on TEN, up 16% on the previous year.

Now in its sixth series, Gogglebox Australia is back with much-loved households returning to their lounges to entertain audiences with their take on the good and the bad television shows of the past week. And this season, Gogglebox Australia will take us into the lounge room of a new household who will be announced soon.

The television experts back to doing what they do best are bubbly Greek best friends Anastasia & Faye; cocktail-loving Wayne & Tom; the adorable and sports-crazy Jackson Family; the fun-loving and cricket-mad Delpechitra Family; vivacious friends Angie & Yvie; dealers in Indigenous Art Mick & Di; the close-knit Dalton Family; happily married couple Lee & Keith; and the three generations of women in the Silbery Family. High school acquaintances and housemates Zina & Vivian will not be returning to season 6 of Gogglebox Australia. Vivian has recently moved overseas and Zina is embarking on new adventures of her own.

Hopefully a bit different to two female friends again.

Did they forgot to include Adam & Symon or are they not returning too?

Zina and Vivian were great, sad to see them go!

They forgot! Amendment received.

Those retirement home residents that were on Common Sense (with that show unlikely to return next year due to poor ratings, there’s a group worth salvaging from it) would probably make for a great addition to Gogglebox although realistically, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another “female friends” type of group.

It’s probably someone from Common Sense. maybe the Asian factory worker family or the removalists?

The retirement home residents would be the best choice from Common Sense. Given they consumed all their news in front of the TV they would be the best option.

Make it happen Foxtel!

Are there 2 seasons this year compared to last year, I’m sure it was just a few months ago this show was on. Not complaining, it’s fun to watch people watch tv . Something is addictive about Gogglebox. Common Sense just looked terrible before it began.

If CBS ends up owning Ten I wonder if Gogglebox will still play on Ten.

Yes, there are. Just a pity that it seems to be a six month break between seasons!

I think Gogglebox Australia will probably continue airing on Ten for as long as it rates well enough for the network and is produced by EndemolShine Australia (who produce other programs for Ten).

The Sunday Telegraph reports the new season will have a new group but not from Common Sense - Matty, his fiancee Sarah Marie and best friend Jad.

GOGGLEBOX AUSTRALIA SEASON 6

NEW HOUSEHOLD ANNOUNCED

Wednesday, October 4, at 7.30pm on Lifestyle
Thursday, October 5, at 8.30pm on Ten

Foxtel and Network Ten today announced that one new household will be joining the hit local-production, Gogglebox Australia, when season 6 premieres Wednesday, October 4, at 7.30pm on Foxtel’s Lifestyle channel and streaming on Foxtel Now, and broadcast the following day, Thursday October 5, at 8.30pm on Network Ten.

Engaged couple Matty and Sarah Marie and their friend Jad have big personalities, a shared love of food and are excited to bring some “Middle-Eastern flavour” to Gogglebox Australia this season. Sarah Marie is your down-to-earth ‘girl next door’ and owner of a makeup and hair agency, entrepreneur and café owner Jad is the larrikin of the group, and Marketing and Communications Director Matty is the responsible one, having the final call on most things, including what’s on the box.

Matty and Jad have been friends for over 10 years, first meeting through the Sydney club scene where they both worked in their early twenties. Matty started dating Sarah Marie four years ago and the trio have formed a close friendship; Jad is like Matty and Sarah Marie’s younger, immature brother. Although having differing tastes in television – Matty lives and breathes sports, Sarah Marie loves her cartoons, and Jad is a fan of cooking shows – the three love sitting down to watch a movie together, so long as there is food involved.

Produced by EndemolShine Australia, executive producer, David McDonald said, “The most important thing about the Gogglebox cast is finding a diverse range of people who offer a variety of opinions and points of view. We’re really excited to see what Matty, Sarah Marie & Jad deliver with their unique take and opinions.”

Matty, Sarah Marie & Jad will join returning cast including Greek best friends Anastasia & Faye; cocktail-loving Wayne & Tom; the adorable and sports-crazy Jackson Family; the fun-loving and cricket-mad Delpechitra Family; vivacious friends Angie & Yvie; best mates and larrikins with a thirst for life Adam & Symon; dealers in Indigenous Art Mick & Di; the close-knit Dalton Family; happily married couple Lee & Keith; and the three generations of women in the Silbery Family.

Even though Zina & Vivian will be missed this season, the new trio of Matty, Sarah Marie & Jad sounds like a good addition to the show. Although I do wonder if the producers of Gogglebox might’ve decided to introduce a Middle Eastern family for the show after The Feed on SBS VICELAND got a bunch of Middle Eastern Australian families to review “Here Come The Habibs” for a one-off segment a few months back?

As for the rest of Gogglebox, I suppose we’ll most likely see programs like The Bachelorette, Australian Survivor, The Block, First Dates and Little Big Shots being reviewed at some point along with a few more “Classic Movies”. As per the last two years, only one of the football Grand Finals for the season return. And as far as the news is concerned, probably some form of coverage on the Same Sex Marriage Postal Survey and/or the ongoing North Korea situation would also have to be mentioned at some point over the eight weeks.

I’ll be interested to see if the new family have to comment on and their reaction to a Pauline Hansen news story.
