When Pell was briefly mentioned in the odd article many said that he was still awaiting trial, iirc, as saying that wouldn’t have breached the court order that refrained anyone revealing the trial was underway.

Bolt concluded by playing the victim and how he has been attacked and protested against and thanked sponsors like Harvey Norman for not withdrawing their support of sky. He then raised against the ABC again.
I wonder when this guy will get his comeuppance.

The Pope is a twit with a reaction like that. Pell is not Jesus, and Pell is nothing like Jesus. According to the Bible is was part of God’s plan that Jesus die and rise from the dead.

Agreed, the acquittal gives people like Bolt a platform to deny future similar cases.
The essential piece of information that pro-Pell platforms are electing to ignore is that the acquittal does not mean that Pell is innocent, it’s that the High Court found enough uncertainty in the case that they could not convict beyond reasonable doubt. Meanwhile Bolt’s first article on the acquittal literally opened with “The High Court says George Pell is innocent.”

I hope the media and society does not forget all the other evil things Pell has done and do not conflate today’s result into a vindication of his other treachery.
His conning of vulnerable survivors into gag orders and measly payouts during the Melbourne Response and his defence and coverups of the crimes at St. Alepius’ still happened. He has only been found not guilty of this specific case.
I wonder if the choirboy will be angry enough today to speak out publicly? Louise mulligan, on 4corners should be a trusted person to deliver the story.

The media won’t forget and neither will the police. I believe it will only be a matter of time before other charges are laid on Pell.
Hopefully he gives himself some time to deal with this privately and not let the media try and manipulate him to talk too soon. He should be able to tell his story. As I said above this is truly devastating not just for the alleged victims but other victims of sexual abuse. To have false hope and it go for such a long time for it to be quashed by the High Court is horrible. But the injustice was done by the Victorian Justice System. This heart ache should have been dealt with over a year ago for them. To have that hope ripped away from you must be absolutely awful. My thoughts are with them.

This is a really good article from ABC and outlines the key issue of the case and probably the main reason why the Victorian Justice System got it so wrong:
Media reporting of his two trials had been suppressed. But since his (now quashed) conviction, significant parts of the media appeared to be prosecuting a case against the Cardinal. Other parts of media stridently defended his innocence, but they were minority voices. The debate over innocent or guilty was dismissed as an extension of the culture wars. Turns out it wasn’t.
I think the media must be careful in future cases that they don’t prosecute against an alleged offender. There will be more trials involving those who are known to the public in the future. They need to learn from their mistakes. A perfect example was that of Maggie Kirkpatrick. She still cannot forgive the media for vilifying her. She was even upset with the ABC during that time. Guilt sells papers innocence doesn’t. But is money and clicks really worth messing with a legal system?

Even if Pell is actually innocent, he certainly is NOT a saint, what with his proven enabling of kiddie fiddling and suppression of victims in his role as a church leader. These idiots seemingly exuding glee and celebrating his release are not reading the room.
