If there was one afternoon kids show I could not stand it was “Ship to Shore”.
God that one irritated the crap out of me

Whilst we are on a roll with classic Aussie TV kids shows
Match Mates - which was on Channel 9 weekday arvos in the early 80s
That’s the one I remember. Not the first kids quiz show but was unique at the time.

I perfer this verison of that show:
Ha! It wasn’t that bad of a show.
Oh? The theme song to it was so memorable though.
Yes, that’s correct. They were both great shows but one had to be the loser I guess (mind you, Agro had a good run running for around 9 years or so IIRC).
Anyone remember this one? I only watched the first few seasons on reruns however.
Who doesn’t remember this series? Every Aussie when they were a kid should know this show, and have the theme song engraved permanently in their brain!
Haha. I’m sure there’s some out there who don’t remember it (or maybe didn’t even watch it for that matter!). Shame on them!!
I only really remember “Round The Twist” and “Ship To Shore” (both of which were replayed well into the 2000s, if my memory serves me correctly) because of the theme songs, TBH.
I don’t remember those shows very well. Best memory for then was Fascape from the Jim Henson company, a rare Australian-American production.
Does anyone remember a game show from the early 1980s called “Catch Us If You Can”?
I can’t find anything on YouTube about the Aussie version of it, there is this Wikipedia article on it though.
If you don’t remember the round the twist or the ship to shore theme then that’s unstrayan (you’ll also look like an idiot when it gets played in raves too).
Round the Twist was such a great show, I hope they replay them on ABC ME, so kids can experience real shows
I do remember it, particularly the booth where dollar notes were blown around and contestants had to grab as much as they could. The show was very short lived although in Melbourne at least it did get re-run over summer non-ratings time in years to follow.
I remember Deborah Gray in it but I was unaware until much later that she’d been more famous for disrobing on Number 96 only a few years earlier
With Tziporah back on TV and these ancient kids flashbacks, I’m surprised nobody has mentioned What’s Up Doc? from the 90’s. Kate Fischer was great… watching her now is just like watching all my childhood memories being completely destroyed in the worst way possible.
ABC used to have some great shows too, I remember Vidiot and of course the original Ferals before Feral TV and the various offshoots.
A*mazing was still one of my favourites though, whenever James Sherry pops up on the cricket coverage or elsewhere it’s the only thing I can associate with him!
As a kid in the mid 80s, these three would be standouts in my memory.
Looking at schedules on the main channels these days, I’m not sure kids have as well as we did back in the 80s and 90s with endless news broadcasts in the afternoon.
Not so sure about that… instead they have Youtube and Netflix.
And heaps more free to air channels plus iview etc
Also multichannels - some of which are devoted to younger viewers.
Another classic I completely forgot about - ‘What’s Up Doc?’ That one brings back great times. I also remember ‘The Looney Tunes Show’ from the early 2000s hosted in a more “adult style” by Holly Brisley. I’ve got a video of the opener I’ll have to upload.
Also forgot about ‘The Ferals’. The opening theme was brilliant!
It’s extremely difficult to find any recent draws from Brisbane, thanks to the combination of the networks not wanting to televise them, and no massive jackpots popping up making it worthwhile to do it. It looks like they still produce a draw for any stations who wish to air them, but they’re posted online at The Lott website in real potato quality.
