Wildfire right now claiming homes in LA. The pictures and live coverage are just incredible and saddening. Governor about to update situation. Definitely homes gone.
Just asking out of interest, what’s the coverage in WA like for the incoming Cyclone Zelia?
IIRC from previous cyclones like Debbie, it’s fairly extensive usually.
Both 9 and 7 broke into programming to take the Premier’s press conference about the state government taking control of the Whyalla Steelworks.
7 had their weather presenter Amelia Mulcahy at the anchor desk, 9 had Will McDonald.
I wonder if we’ll see Europe Correspondents from various networks popping up at The Vatican by the end of this week.
The latest calculations from NASA; story doesn’t seem to be as prominent as when the risk was higher. Perhaps Seven can use it as one of their good news stories ![]()
NASA has significantly lowered the risk of near-Earth asteroid 2024 YR4 as an impact threat to Earth for the foreseeable future. When first discovered, asteroid 2024 YR4 had a very small, but notable chance of impacting our planet in 2032. As observations of the asteroid continued to be submitted to the Minor Planet Center, experts at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s (JPL’s) Center for Near-Earth Object Studies were able to calculate more precise models of the asteroid’s trajectory and now have found there is no significant potential for this asteroid to impact our planet for the next century. The latest observations have further reduced the uncertainty of its future trajectory, and the range of possible locations the asteroid could be on Dec. 22, 2032, has moved farther away from the Earth.
I was excited for the asteroid, how disappointing.
Are we expecting any coverage for TC Alfred in the coming days?
Given that Brisbane is a much larger market than FNQ & Karratha, I’m assuming coverage - however it seems now a far cry from what networks/radio stations do during cyclones.
Apologies if this is in the wrong thread I didn’t know where to really put this.
No doubt 7 and 9 will be pushing it hard. Over the coming days I’d say it will just be content heavy, but Wed-Sun will likely be extended coverage and ambulance like chasing stuff. It will probably be stupidly over the top (not the event, the stupid reporting) and I often tune in to the ABC for such coverage.
With these events, it’s more the after period that’s the worst. It might hit on Thursday, but it’s the Fri-Sun period which could pose issues for the state.
Anything radio-wise? Any commercial changes?
