Interesting development. And not the first time they’ve had a show done from the States (Mark Steyn used to do his show from his home in New Hampshire). Anyway I’m sure this new show will be nice and balanced
and this “People’s Channel” nonsense is a bit North Korea. Makes me gag.
It will go out at 7pm US Eastern, midnight UK time, apparently 7 nights a week for some reason.
Kind of remarkable that GB News sees any potential in trying to crack into the US market. Conservative media seems from an outsider’s perspective like a totally saturated market.
You have:
Fox News
Fox Business
Newsmax
Newsmax2
OANN
Right Side Broadcasting Network
Probably another network I can’t remember
Plus local Sinclair affiliates, right-wing talk radio, a plethora of podcasts like Megyn Kelly, Youtube and Twitch streamers.
GB News is now the #1 news network in UK according to this

Hmm… not surprising when the BBC News channel and Sky News are so dire. Sky and BBC really need to up their game and be less boring. Maybe then they would get more viewers and beat GB News. Sky in particular used to be so engaging. Now they just copy the BBC and it’s a total yawnfest. No wonder GB News is doing well (compared to the other news channels, anyway). Just a shame it’s so biased (but then I’m sure some people appreciate the bias…)
GB News makes for more dynamic television no doubt.
Production and editorial standards are not great, but it’s more engaging television
Exactly. You’ve got the weird half-world, half UK BBC News channel and the yawnfest that is Sky News, then there’s GB which just feels more alive in comparison. (Shame the content is so shithouse…)
Sky News used to be really dynamic and it was brilliant! They used to have this big newsroom, with a desk at one end and a videowall at the other. There were lots of different presenting areas and it worked really well. I honestly think a modern version of this would look the business:
Now what do they have? That stupid glass cube in the Sky atrium (looks more like a hospital or a shopping mall than a news channel) and a desk pushed right up against a screen in Westminster. And the presenters are so dull! They need to look at how CNN does it. Engaging presenters, with personality, who can keep a viewer watching for more than 5 seconds!
Sky News continues to have its budget cut under Comcast, it’s only going to get worse.
Yeah, it’s a hard watch these days. As @NuStraya said, there used to be a real energy to SNUK but it’s gone.
GBN is a bit of a mess but I can see why it’s popular.
Remember when GBN first started?
It was a disaster.
Yep lol - I believe I gave it a year in this thread ![]()
I’m honestly surprised it’s still on the air. It’s still haemorrhaging money, by all accounts, but presumably the owners feel the political influence it gives them is worth it. It certainly looks a lot better than it did in 2021, put it that way!
I think them ditching the really inflammatory presenters (Dan Wootton, Mark Steyn, et al) has helped, though some of the others they’ve kept or brought on aren’t much better. And Farage, a man who is effectively leader of the opposition in all but name, should not have a daily hour-long prime time bully pulpit on what is supposedly a news channel. But what do I know…
In specific periods (as, to be fair, the PR article acknowledges).
And comparing it to very dull rolling news channels that only really get viewers when something big happens is disingenuous
6am - 2am, that’s basically the whole day
I think that’s the point. They’re dull. If BBC and Sky output better content they’d be watched more
There’s no money to be made, Sky keeps cutting it back. GB will never make money either, even if it rates double what it’s doing now.
Pointless excercise.
It’s all political. The main owner (Paul Marshall) is an evangelical far-right nutjob who thinks he can influence the next election.
This is an interesting article about the battle between him and Murdoch for right wing media in Britain:
GB News up 13%, BBC News down 6%
Linear 24 hour channel viewers
