GB News Channel

Does the Ofcom have any power? I never seem to read anything about any consequences for these outlets.

It can revoke a broadcaster’s licence, like it did with RT and CGTN, but those are extreme circumstances.

Fair enough to revoke foreign agents having a TV channel, but seems there’s never much consequence for local outlets.

In theory they have significant power. But it’s all political. As GB News is very sympathetic towards the governing Conservative Party, Ofcom takes a light touch aproach towards GB. I think and hope they might grow some balls after the election, which will almost certainly be won by the Labour Party.

From memory the RT thing was kind of them closing the stables after the horse had bolted… the EU had already banned RT, and as it was a European satellite that transmitted RT to the UK, the feed would have been cut off regardless. I think the argument given at the time was ‘we can’t ban RT, what if Russia bans the BBC in retaliation?’.

Redundancies… interesting. Very interesting. One last roll of the dice, perhaps?

I finally got around to listening to this during the week - it’s a good insight into how the channel operates.

40+ roles to go, and people like Erron Gordon have left. Alongside TalkTV’s closure, it isn’t a great sign for the network.

I think it’ll be gone by the end of next year. Whether it survives as a website/YT channel is one thing, but I don’t think the TV/radio station parts will survive.

GB News’ election coverage is out - a watch party in Essex, the county where Farage is running for House of Commons! No, really.

Stephen Dixon and Camilla Tominey have been named as the lead anchors for GB News’ inaugural general election night coverage next Thursday, July 4.

The pair will host a special live through-the-night programme beginning at 9.55pm - five minutes before the polls close - with analysis coming from the channel’s political editor Christopher Hope and former Labour MP Gloria De Piero.

Patrick Christys and Michelle Dewberry will be hosting a watch party from a club in Essex - the county where former GB News presenter Nigel Farage is expected to win a seat in the House of Commons for Reform UK.

Taking on the Peter Snow/Jeremy Vine role for the channel is deputy political editor Tom Harwood, who will crunch the numbers as they come in on a giant video screen.

They’ve also renovated their Paddington studio - an Erron Gordon project before he left for the BBC.

Ridiculous. Clearly not in it for his constituents. He’s such a pig.

Ofcom has fined GB News £100,000 ($130,000) over impartiality during its People’s Forum: The Prime Minister live show with Rishi Sunak just prior to the UK general election.

The regulator concluded that the prime minister had a “mostly uncontested platform to promote the policies and performance of his Government.”
