6-part miniseries The Cadburys is coming to Binge and Foxtel in 2027.

Here is a little bit more information on the show.

Foxtel acquired The Cadburys via its output deal with Sony Pictures Television which is the international distributor.

Note that more information especially about Kayo is coming tonight.

I think this is the first time Foxtel hosts its upfront in two parts, at different times of the day.

It does allow the media and the public to digest the early release of information of upcoming shows on Binge and Foxtel next year.

EDIT: According to Mediaweek, this morning’s Binge breakfast took place at The Oriana restaurant in Sydney’s Overseas Passenger Terminal.

More releases now

Yes. God forbid they use DAZN as a better prefix to the channels.

Kayo has more currency in this market than DAZN has brand wise.

Just checked they have trademarked Kayo Sports News, Kayo Footy, Kayo Legaue etc

With Foxtel Media being renamed DAZN Media+ and Fox Sports and Kayo merging to become Kayo Sports, it looks like the phasing out of the Foxtel brand has begun.

It’s ai the left sleeve gives it away, not to mention the undies.

Looks like the Fox branding is on the nose and they’re phasing it out.

Doesn’t look like it.

Looks like the Fox Sports brand is dead.

DAZN / Foxtel / Binge still seems messy to me

I suspect the slow evolution towards encouraging people from Foxtel cable/satellite onto streaming will simply continue.

The complication is that, from everything I understand, a traditional Foxtel customer is still more profitable than a Binge customer. If that’s the case, there isn’t much incentive for DAZN to aggressively migrate those customers while the existing Foxtel business remains profitable. You’d probably want the transition to happen naturally while retaining those higher-value subscribers for as long as possible.

I also can’t imagine Foxtel itself attracting huge numbers of new customers at this stage. Most subscriber growth is presumably going to happen through Binge. So the job of the Foxtel business becomes less about growth and more about retaining its existing customer base and maximising its value for as long as possible.

That’s also why I’m not convinced there would be much value in rebranding Foxtel as DAZN. If the traditional pay-TV platform has, say, another five years of meaningful life left, why spend money replacing a very well-known Australian consumer brand with DAZN, which arguably has considerably less mainstream recognition and feels less consumer-friendly? A rebrand could potentially accelerate churn rather than prevent it.

It seems more logical to let Foxtel remain Foxtel for as long as the economics justify keeping the traditional platform running, while Binge increasingly becomes the destination for new streaming customers. Eventually the legacy pay-TV operation may simply reach the point where it no longer makes economic sense and gets wound down.

The bigger challenge for DAZN is probably not what to call Foxtel. It’s working out how to make a streaming household as valuable and profitable as the traditional Foxtel household it is eventually replacing.

I feel it will only remain in the old school physical TV service, as long as that lives. They probably won’t want to put a new brand, Hubbl, Binge or DAZN onto that, but everything else yeah.

Dazn seems like it isn’t really customer facing except for maybe overseas stuff. It’s all just foxtel (for a few more years), kayo and binge.

Since News Corp (Fox) left, seems DAZN want the Foxtel name gone. And given how big Kayo has become, thanks to its exclusive AFL and NRL games, it makes sense.

Interesting that they’ve locked in NBC-U output renewal a couple of years in advance and also announced it. Also interesting that despite “extended rights” it appears not all will be available nor exclusive, perhaps due to existing rival svod and bvod contracts (eg. Netflix, Disney Plus, Stan, 7Plus, etc).

And wonder when and if Seven will renew theirs or potential for Nine or 10 to swoop, again. Also considering 7Bravo too. Note that DAZN release only mentions “exclusive” for first runs from studio productions for Peacock. Pay 1, AKA new release films (after tvod window eg. digital rentals) is key for Foxtel and Binge competing with the svod services.
