The sooner Fox Cricket disappears, the better. This Cricket broadcasting rights deal was a massive disaster. After Channel 9 lost the cricket rights in April 2018, they gave the ODIS and T20I men’s matches to Foxtel exclusively. This was literally a disgrace! Without having Limited overs matches on FTA, cricket in Australia has declined. Crowd numbers have dropped and there’s not a lot of promotion. Seriously, how could FTA viewers have womens limited over Matches and not mens? They have broken the anti siphoning law!
It’s a shame that the greeds at Cricket Aus had to bypass 10 for Limited overs coverage on FTA. After building up the BBL, the way that 10 has been treated in sports bidding has been disgusting.
That could also have someone to do with the people at ten and how they go into a rights bid situation?
That’s a good point, but the big bash wouldn’t be where it is today without 10
Last time when BBL was on 10, The channel televised every 43 matches exclusively live. After 10 lost the rights to BBL in 2018, Cricket Australia awarded the rights to BBL to Fox and Seven. Channel 7 televised 43/59 matches live while fox screened all 59 matches live. Why do FTA viewers miss out on Saturday matches? To give 16 matches exclusively to FOX is a disgrace! This is their 2nd year in its 6-year contract. Ratings have dropped since moving to Ch7.
There’s slim chance Fox will get rid of (arguably) their biggest NRL programs (Matty Jones does Thursday & Sunday night shows)
[citation needed]
Technically CA, Foxtel & Seven found a loophole in the anti-siphoning provisions
It’s a shame 10 didn’t bid enough to retain the rights…
When sporting bodies conduct rights auctions/tenders, one of their objectives is to be greedy in order to get the most money for their rights.
You just answered your own question…
They did bid for the rights but were blindsided and middle treated by CA
Rugby should be grateful that Fox Sports is offering them anything, as the rights are probably really worth nothing if free-to-air was going to show Super Rugby.
In this case, the rights deal is related to the playing form of Australian Super Rugby teams and the Wallabies. We have seen them struggle against visiting teams in the past few years (especially against the All Blacks and NZ-based Super Rugby teams). Only when they start winning more matches will the value of the deal go higher.
The 3rd Bledisloe Cup will still be televised on TV. Won’t this be it’s final match of Fox Sports telecast?
They did get 1 billion+ dollars.
As for breaking the anti-siphoning laws, it’s basically the same thing the NRL and AFL do every rights deal. with anti-siphoned games somehow ending up exclusively broadcast on Fox Sports. FTA allows it to happen.
The blame lies with Ten and their not quite 1 billion dollar ($960 million) bid. “Bottom feeders” i believe they were referred as
Fox Sports is now expected to broadcast the tournament while the ABC should also be able to show it if it can afford to buy the rights at the last minute.

Shame that they couldn’t get Paul Truswell as well but I guess he’ll be on Radio Le Mans itself?
Not in 4K very surprised.Maybe be a message to RA!
If you are referring to Fox Sports’ rugby union coverage, Super Rugby has never been shown in 4K until 2019.
Thought a few Super Rugby matches were shown in 4K last year?
You are right. One of last year’s Super Rugby matches in 4K, Reds v Blues, will be replayed on channel 508 late tonight.
