Fox Sports

Interesting times ahead, is this another fluff bit of Push the Murdoch adgenda or serous bit of writing about the Supercars. It has some interesting figures about the viewership in the article too.

I’d like to know where they get this television audience from.

Does anyone have problems visiting the Fox Sports website? Since yesterday, when I tried to use Firefox to go to the website, the browser crashed. Same with Internet Explorer.

Works fine to me.

In the past overseas viewers in the US (when FS1 was Speed Channel) had the series shown in December/January along with the British Touring Cars as filler between NASCAR seasons. They’re probably mentioning the potential audience rather than the real audience as not that many tuned in on Speed for the telecasts.

Australian Financial Review reports Telstra has signed a multi-million deal with Fox Sports, to centralise sport production at two new facilities in Melbourne and Sydney.

It’s estimated Fox Sports’ production trucks underground at stadiums, costs upward of $15 million.

Trial to start later this year, operational by start of AFL and NRL seasons in 2018.

This will be interesting, having much of a production team off-site for a game of sport, with only the commentarors and associated crew at a ground.

Wonder if Seven Sport, Nine’s Wide World Of Sports & Ten Sport will follow suit? Sport productions could easily be managed from the networks’ broadcast centres.

Thoughts?

I’m surprised that places like Ethiad, MCG, Domain Stadium, Adelaide Oval etc don’t have something permanent given there is pretty much a game a week at those venues (if not more in the first two cases)

All of the permanent NRL grounds now have Telstra DVN back to the ‘bunker’

Do Seven feed back directly to Docklands from Ethiad?

I still suffer the same problem at home. Each time I try to visit the website, the page stops halfway through loading and it just freezes. I am using Firefox version 53 with Adobe Flash (both latest version). I tried to rectify the problem by stopping hardware acceleration on my Flash but to no avail. For the time being I can only use the Fox Sports app on my smartphone to watch videos.

What about Chrome?

Try a different ethernet connection on your pc

Okay grandpa

I am using a wifi connection from the modem in the bedroom to my laptop in the lounge.
I do have Chrome on my laptop so I will try it when I get home tonight.
A similar problem occurs with my work computer which runs on Windows 10. However that computer has Edge browser which runs smoothly with the website. Nevertheless I have emailed technical support at Fox Sports and is waiting for a reply.

It has solved website loading issues for me in the past.

Ethernet is great and faster though, especially with a desktop. WiFi is useful for mobile devices.

I couldn’t imagine using a desktop outside of work

I love my desktop, since the extra screen space allows me to have two large, spacious windows open side by side. Great for when I’m writing essays and need to read/quote PDF journal articles.

Oh and Fox Sports’ website works for me.

Fox Sports News seemly hasn’t bothered to update their weather in quite sometime:

Never understood the point of having the weather there. There are a half-dozen other ways people can get the weather other than a sports channel. It is definitely something that should be removed in the next graphics overhaul.

In regards to remote production, I’m a little surprised it has taken Australian networks this long to switch over to centralized production. ESPN and Fox Sports in the US has been doing it for a number of years now and have even resorted to keeping the commentators in a studio instead of flying them all over the country. Wonder if we will see that from Fox Sports Australia in a year or two?

It’s to stop people using those half a dozen other ways. Keep them fixed on FSN. Same reason you can get news on FM radio. It may not be the most comprehensive service but it gives people a quick hit and saves flicking elsewhere for the headlines at top of hour.
