Fox Sports

The NBL and FOX Sports have re-negotiated their contract. All games will be live on a new 3 year deal down from last years five year deal. Which I believe also means FTA rights is up for grabs.

Congrats to Lara Pitt from NRL on FOX who is 20 weeks pregnant with her second child

That’s not a good sign for the NBL. Why would Fox Sports reduce the length of the broadcast deal?

I have been thinking about this.

This year the Brisbane Bullets are making a comeback. Wonder if that us something to do with it (but The Townsville crocodiles gave folded)

Some controversy on Saturday over NRL commentator Steve Roach describing the NZ Warriors style of play as “jungle ball”. Some viewers saw the comment as racist due to the many players of Maori and Polynesian descent in the Warriors team. Roach apparently wasn’t meaning to offend anyone, and when told of the issue he apologised on-air later in the game.

Another term they’ll have to add to the banned list now.
I counted about 5 tweets complaining about racism. 5 tweets doesn’t warrant a response or apology.

The Sunday Telegraph reports Fox Sports will show Arsenal’s two exhibition matches in Sydney next year: against Sydney FC on July 13 and Western Sydney Wanderers two nights later, both at ANZ Stadium.

Wish it was on a commercial free to air network. 7 showed Tottenham vs Sydney FC and Chelsea vs Sydney FC at ANZ last year

Great coup for Fox Sports. Both matches are near sellouts so a big national audience is guaranteed.
I think Seven is waiting for more announcements on visits by overseas teams before bidding to show these exhibition matches.

###Retro Round

FOX SPORTS TURNS BACK THE CLOCK WITH THE LAUNCH OF RETRO ROUND

THIS WEEKEND’S NRL AND AFL ROUNDS CELEBRATE THE HISTORY OF THE GAMES

Across Round 21 of the NRL and Round 19 of the AFL, FOX SPORTS and FOX FOOTY will step back in time to celebrate the late 70s through to the early 90s in the first Retro themed round.

Retro Round will celebrate everything that made this unforgettable era of Australia’s sporting heritage great – and pay tribute to the legends that made NRL and AFL the games they are today.

The themed round will come to life across FOX SPORTS 501 and FOX FOOTY 504 throughout the week leading into this weekend’s NRL and AFL rounds.

Entertainment shows will celebrate our retro heroes with special features and guest appearances, look at what made the competition what it is today and reflect on some of the game’s biggest moments and characters from the retro era.

Highlights across the NRL week will include a trip down memory lane with Peter Sterling and former Eels teammates Steve Edge, Peter Wynn, Eric Grothe and Brett Kenny, to reflect on the club’s glory days in an On the Couch with Sterlo special. Then on Sunday, the old is the new when Steve ‘Blocker’ Roach, Graeme Hughes, and Wayne Pearce return to the commentary box to call Sunday’s Manly v Knights clash.

AFL fans have plenty to look forward to with FOX FOOTY’s longest-running program, On The Couch, bringing back the original panel of Gerard Healy, Robert Walls and Mike Sheahan for the themed round. Plus a Retro Round Table special hosted by Sandy Roberts and featuring some of the greatest names to ever play the game, Robert DiPierdomenico, Doug Hawkins, Peter Bosustow, Kevin Sheedy, Stephen Kernahan, Andrew Bews, Dale Weightman and Justin Madden.

FOX SPORTS Head of Live Sport and News, Steve Crawley said: “Retro Round is all about taking viewers back in time to relive the moments that shaped the game, honour our retro heroes and remember the things that we might rather forget!

“Throughout the week, and across this weekend’s live AFL and NRL action, we will bring the retro era back to life across our channels, providing viewers with plenty of laughs along the way.”

FOX SPORTS Head of Entertainment shows, Gary Burns, added: “Whether you are an AFL or NRL fan, Retro Round is about celebrating the game you love and what made it what it is today, so look out for plenty of warm tributes as the week goes on.”

Great to see Ian Robertson back on TV. I wonder where he has been since Seven first lost the AFL broadcast rights in 2001.

Wow both Ian Robertson and Drew Moprhett doing a AFL match, but even better Greame Hughes calling a NRL match on FOX? They are even bring back the title “AFL Today” for there pre and post match shows.

I’m pretty sure at some stage there graham Hughes and Wayne pierce called Friday night football on ten in the late 80s or early 90s.

Blocker has always said that about the Warriors style of play, I’m a warriors supporter doesn’t bother me.

Hughes dos the Warriors games for SKY in the late 90’s before they got Jason Costigan

Correct Hughes was the lead commentator until 9 got the rights in 1992. Even Sterlo was a commentator at channel 10 When he had injuries in 90 and 91.

Slightly off topic, but Hughes could be chosen by Seven to call some matches at Rugby League World Cup next year if he is still available.

Tottenham Hotspur has announced that Foxtel will become the club’s official International broadcast partner in Australia for an initial three years from the start of the 2016/2017 season, joining EPL clubs Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City. More details here

I guess that Voss and Gasiner will do the earlier game(Raiders-South Sydney) with Hughes, Roach and Pearce on the Sea Eagles Knights game.

Voss hosts the Sunday ticket, the earlier one should still remain the same with Joel Caine and Belcher.

The Fox Sports retro sweepers and intros are really cool I reckon, they’re going all out which is fantastic
