This morning Fox News on Foxtel is playing the American ads. I am addicted. Most of these ads are for prescription medication (such ads are illegal in Australia). It’s making me want to see a doctor and ask for about three different meds.

I usually have early evening American television running at my desk in the morning and the newscasts and game shows are filled with those pharmaceutical ads. The list of side effects they are obliged to mention sound so sinister they tend to turn me off wanting to go near them.

Because of the demographic Fox News reaches. Old, republicans beset with dietary issues. And they need drugs.

Same with 2GB and their gold commercials.

From my observations, 2GB has commonly run ads for things like “Pain Away” arthritis/sports sprays and creams (even sponsoring the hourly Macquarie National News if I’m not mistaken), the CareAlert SmartDialer and other products primarily aimed at people over 55.

I’ve never seen them myself, but I’d imagine that Fox News in America has something similar going on with their ad breaks.

Wonder if they’d feel the same about our life/funeral/travel/pet/[every other damn category] insurance ads we’re blessed with during daytime television.

They ran an ad for Cialis - a medication that keeps men hard at the right moment. There were several warnings including “consult a medical professional if your erection lasts for over 4 hours”. Good Gawd - it’s your partner that would need to see a doctor.

I wonder what the legal position is regarding Foxtel playing ads recommending prescription medication - some of which is available in Australia.

That’d be an interesting ACMA report.

You constantly see ACMA complaints for any non-program content at all that could relate to tobacco or cigarettes (Channel 31 Melbourne got whacked with a warning years ago for playing 50s cigarette ads for brands that don’t even exist anymore).

Pretty Much this scene from the Newsroom sums up how i feel about Fox News

FOX News Channel’s Real Story host Gretchen Carlson is no longer with the network as of today. She has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against FNC’s chief Roger Ailes and also accuses former FOX and Friends’ co-host Steeve Doocy.

Roger Ailes Resigns as Chairman and CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, and Chairman Fox Television Stations

Rupert Murdoch to Assume Role of Chairman and Acting CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network

NEW YORK-- 21st Century Fox (NASDAQ:FOXA) today announced that Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, and Chairman of Fox Television Stations, has resigned from his role effective immediately.

Rupert Murdoch will assume the role of Chairman and acting CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network.
Rupert Murdoch, Executive Chairman, 21st Century Fox, said:
“Roger Ailes has made a remarkable contribution to our company and our country. Roger shared my vision of a great and independent television organization and executed it brilliantly over 20 great years.

Fox News has given voice to those who were ignored by the traditional networks and has been one of the great commercial success stories of modern media.

It is always difficult to create a channel or a publication from the ground up and against seemingly entrenched monopolies. To lead a flourishing news channel, and to build Fox Business, Roger has defied the odds.

His grasp of policy and his ability to make profoundly important issues accessible to a broader audience stand in stark contrast to the self-serving elitism that characterizes far too much of the media.

I am personally committed to ensuring that Fox News remains a distinctive, powerful voice. Our nation needs a robust Fox News to resonate from every corner of the country.

To ensure continuity of all that is best about Fox News and what it stands for, I will take over as Chairman and acting CEO, with the support of our existing management team under Bill Shine, Jay Wallace and Mark Kranz.”

Lachlan Murdoch and James Murdoch, 21st Century Fox’s Executive Chairman, and CEO, respectively, said:
“We join our father in recognizing Roger’s remarkable contributions to our company. Our talented Fox News and Fox Business colleagues, up and down the organization and on both sides of the camera, have built something that continues to redefine the cable news experience for millions of viewers. We are enormously proud of their accomplishments. For them, as well as for our colleagues across our entire organization, we continue our commitment to maintaining a work environment based on trust and respect. We take seriously our responsibility to uphold these traditional, long-standing values of our company.”

Fox and Friends Weekend co-host Anna Kooiman is leaving to join her Australian husband at a new job in Sydney, Deadline reports. She will be freelancing for the network.

I watched some of Fox & Friends last night. They’re still getting stuck into Obama.

Fox News Anchor Shepard Smith: Roger Ailes Didn’t Care That I’m Gay

His comment was two months old, so yes maybe it is old news.

I’ve noticed the on-screen Fox News logo no longer spins. It just stays facing front-on.

It was probably distracting Donald.

FOX News Channel isn’t that the news channel that is often criticised for being biased towards the Republicans or is that CNN?

I’m pretty sure that it’s Fox News which is infamous for it’s right wing/Republican bias.
