Fox Footy

Can be easier than setting up the commentary setup where they may have it permanently at Optus.

This. Barely have a proper commentary space for the 7 team as is.

Wish Fox would commit to travelling to Saturday & Sunday games like they do with Thursday & Friday night games

They claim Saturday is all about Fox footy but they only really care about Thursday & Friday since they have been at every ground for Thursday or Friday night match (except Darwin) but have not been to all the grounds during Saturday and Sunday

AFAIK no broadcasters are going besides boundary callers - guessing there’s no facilities at the ground?

Not even for 7 or radio?
MMM and ABC are both using their Perth based teams, plus 6PR are covering the game and SEN providing an alternative WA and SEN App only broadcast with their normal Perth team too.
It would be odd not just for Ch7 but also for 4 radio stations using Perth based teams to not travel down the highway, but if the media infrastructure isn’t there (even after the recent upgrades to the oval), then I have no idea why the AFL are allowing a game to be played there.

These rooms on the right side of the grandstand look like they could be used as media boxes so we’ll find out tomorrow.
Also Fox, ABC, SEN and MMM were all in Bunbury for the WC v NM pre-season game this year, so they’ve done it before.

7 is at the ground in Perth

Who’d you see.
Supposedly the call team for that match is Corbin Middlemas, Gerard Healy, Nick Dal Santo & Will Schofield.
Schofield will def be at the boundary, it’s the other three I’m not confident would turn up.

Fox is doing their own coverage for the big freeze.

They are taking 7’s interview before the slide. Using their own commentary for the slide & then cutting away from 7’s post slide interview to their commentators + panel

Personally I don’t like it. They should just use 7’s slide coverage like they have done previously and only go to their panel during the gap between sliders

Was wondering how they’d handle this, wasn’t sure if the new rights would include the Big Freeze. I think opting not to take BT’s call just doesn’t work.

Wonder if Fox Sports have ever tried to push to host Big Freeze, like alternating annually with Seven, guessing there was resistance, probably from Seven (AFAIK the FTA broadcaster has always been the producer of the Queens/Kings Birthday Monday game).

Yes I don’t see why there is any point in cutting away to do a 10 second commentary then just skipping the post slide interview if they are doing the pre-slide interview - may as well just show the whole 7 production.

If the networks had some maturity about them, they’d use both Seven and Fox talent for this.

It’s a charity event - stop turning it into a measuring contest for your coverage.

Matt Nable is the voice of Fox League’s coverage, so he is a Fox talent.

Seven hosts with Seven mics, a Seven MC and the host of Seven’s breakfast show going down the slide… but Fox gets a voice over artist so I guess it’s even

7’s the host broadcaster so I get why they r using their mics etc. I think even if 7 used ‘afl’ mic they use for half time coaches interviews, Fox wouldn’t take the slide commentary especially since it’s BT

But you could argue Foxtel, if allowed, needed to be the ones to push harder?

They’re simulcaster or now co-broadcaster. Why would Seven, really, give Foxtel a second thought, it is their hosting game and probably after a decade just becomes an expectation. Fox Footy/Kayo I’m sure are at the back of their minds.

AFL House probably also need to share part of the blame here too.

I don’t really care where the blame lies (though I suspect it’s largely Seven being protective of their product), I just think it’s a bad look for the industry.

Cricketers, swimmers, netballers can all get behind the cause. But can the two TV broadcasters cooperate? Nah.

Fox could have kept it the same as they have done before. Take the 7 coverage but cut to their panel during the break between the sliders and their own stuff during ads etc. There was no need for them to do their own commentary of the sliders.

Or they could have done their own commentary with the 7 interviews. Why did they take the pre slide interview but not the post slide interview. Both are equally important.
