Fox Footy

Ummm. Huddo called the Sydney vs Adelaide game.

It gives the coverage another unique selling point (aside from not having ad breaks during quarters) that can drive people who can watch either Fox or Seven to go with the former.

Judging by the rating increases for Fox’s Thursday and Friday night coverage this season, being able to do their own commentary has had significant benefits.

What ever happened to John Casey he used to commentate for Fox Footy in the mid 2000s,I know he was mainly a basketball expert but he did a few seasons of AFL as well.Does he still call Basketball still or has he retired maybe Fox Footy can ask him back?

The ā€œad freeā€ thing wont last forever

I’ve already noticed that hideous scoreboard is being used for information like ā€œTomorrow’s Gameā€ or ā€œSir Doug Nicholls Roundā€ in the bottom right. It’y only a matter of time before that space is used to show advertising. First static banners, then 2 second animations, then 5-second videos, then 10 etc etc

It’s coming, and sooner than we think. In a few years Fox will have more advertising during game than Ch 7 will and strangely Ch 7 will be promoting their coverage with this advantage.

They’ve never said ā€œad freeā€ They’ve had numerous banner ads for years. Currently the Bunnings replay after some goals.

Can’t see the ā€œad break free during playā€ changing in this 7 year deal

Never?

I’m sure some intrepid poster can find one of those famous ā€œAD FREEā€ watermarks that Fox used to brand for a while.

Yeah I remember those. ā€œAd break freeā€ I’m pretty sure it was.

At the end of 2022 they were still saying ā€œno ads siren to sirenā€ (my apologies for saying Ad Free when it was actually No Ads"

New era for sports fans as Foxtel Group extends… | Foxtel Group

That lasted one season until they introduced the Bunnings Build Up. By the end of 2026 there will be far more advertising during the game. By the end of the 7 year deal, Fox Footy will be full of ads (bottom of the screen, 3 second full screen splashes, more sponsored segments, digital ads on the ground etc)

I wouldnt be surprised if the callers start slipping in ads during their calls like they do on the radio,

To be fair, that’s a very rare use of the use of the term ā€˜ad-free’ by Fox. They insistently use ā€˜Ad-break free’ or ā€˜No ad breaks siren-to-siren’ when referring to their coverage, going back to at least 2012.
Even now, they’re response to 7’s ā€˜Live and Free’ is ā€˜ā€¦Because ā€˜Free’ isn’t Ad-Break Free’.

NRL commentators on FOX already do this, mostly for Main Event and other shows on FOX League.

Interestingly, Fox not sending the normal WA based call team to Bunbury (about 2 hours south of Perth) - instead looking like it’ll be called remotely with Will Schofield on the boundary.

Seems strange to have a local call team and not use them, is the cost cutting there that bad they would rather call remotely from South Melbourne than shuttling down three on-air crew down the Forrest Highway?

He’ll be on Fox Cricket this coming summer as well.
