Herald Sun reports today Matthew Campbell has quit Fox Footy to concentrate on family commitments and his full time job with CrownBet. Campbell has been a TV and radio commentator for more than 20 years, and after he joined Fox Footy from Seven, he had been calling mainly home games of the Brisbane Lions and the Gold Coast Suns on Saturdays. He will be a big loss to the broadcaster.
The same report also says that Fox Footy won’t have commentators at every game of the NAB Challenge which starts tomorrow in Launceston when Hawthorn takes on Carlton. At selected matches, only a boundary rider will be at the venue for interviews, with commentators calling off the screen from the Melbourne studio, similar to 2GB’s “Interactive Studio” for NRL matches. Clearly a money saving move.

Watch this space for an announcement involving Cameron Williams.

It’s one thing for 2GB and Triple M to be calling games from the so-called ‘interactive studio’, something the NRL really should prohibit in future rights agreements. It’s another thing for Fox Footy to think the quality of the broadcasts will be the same having the commentators calling the game off-site. ESPN has been trialing this for college basketball broadcasts over the past year or so and there’s been a noticeable backlash from viewers about this.

Well Fox need to beef up their hosting of their coverage and Cameron making a return to Fox Sports makes sense. He has the credibility to be an anchor of the coverage. Interestingly it was Fox that sacked him for the bra/harassment incident back then.

Herald Sun reports today a new nightly show called AFL Tonight premieres next Monday (February 29), to be shown on both Fox Footy and Fox Sports News channels. It will be hosted by Sarah Jones from Foxtel’s Melbourne studios.
As if we don’t have enough AFL related programs already.

EDIT: Open Mike will move to Tuesdays in 2016, as part of Fox Footy’s 2016 line-up. You can read all about it here

If you look at the advance guides for Fox Sports 501, there’s a NRL version that will be launching as well

I saw highlights of West Coast v Gold Coast at AFL website last night and thought I heard a new voice calling the action alongside Dwayne Russell. So I looked up on Twitter and discovered it was Adam Papalia from 6PR in Perth. He may be replacing Matthew Campbell on a part-time basis.

so Foxtel may have hired a new commentator in this case someone from 6PR?

Fox Footy has tweaked its scoreboard, including the club’s logos in the triangles next to the scores. Last year it only showed club colours.

With Andrew Gaze being announced as the Sydney Kings new Head Coach does anyone know if this will allow him to continue on Bounce? Perhaps it will open the door for Damien Fleming to return to the show.

Who is commentating the West Coast v Freo match? Never heard his voice before

Edit: never mind should have read above. Adam Papalia. I like him

Matt Granland and Brett Phillips from Melbourne radio station SEN called the Suns-Demons clash this evening. Fox Footy’s resources were stretched today covering four matches, that it had to borrow outside commentators.
Fox Sports News reporter Sarah Jones made her debut as boundary reporter this afternoon for Geelong v West Coast.

from next year, id think FOX would sign Matt Granland and Brett Phillips from Melbourne radio station SEN full time, since they will have a extra game to handle(the 3.20pm game) besides them they have Eddie, Sandy, Huddo, Russell and Papalia to handle the games so…

Eddie McGuire has asked to be omitted from Fox Footy’s studio coverage of Adelaide-North Melbourne match tomorrow night, saying the recent controversy on his comments against The Age journalist Caroline Wilson has taken its toll mentally. The two met in person this afternoon and Wilson again accepted his apology.

Fox Footy presenter Sarah Jones will replace McGuire for Thursday night’s pre and post-game coverage, making her debut in the role.

Jones’ debut gave Fox Footy its best Thursday night (national) audience of the year. According to The Age journalist Caroline Wilson on 3AW this afternoon, Jones will be host of Thursday night’s pre and post-game coverage for the next three weeks also.

Eddie McGuire returned to air today after a month’s break, calling the Carlton-St Kilda match at the MCG.

He was actually hosting ‘Saturday Footy on Fox’ on Saturday.
