Typical Australian viewpoint that. The rest of the world is built around it. We can’t compete in international sports without it.
Mark Howard is commentating AFL on Saturday so there would be a different caller for the T20
I heard some highlights in the news and it was Brendan Julian.
Yes Brendan was in the box and they had Megan Barnard on site in Cairns
Brendon Julian, Mark Waugh, Brad Haddin, Kerry O’Keeffe and Dan Ginnane on commentary for the ODI against South Africa today. Megan Barnard on the ground in Cairns.
Seems to be two commentators per stint as well - Ginnane and O’Keeffe starting. Don’t mind having only two actually!
Just wondering, how long was the broadcast deal that Fox signed with BCCI? It was Dec 2023 and it said multi year but didn’t mention how many exactly.
With India v Australia tests happening early 2027 does Fox have those rights or does 7 have a chance to get those rights (unlikely I know) like they did with SL early this year.
Usually, but not always the multi-years would include one Australian test tour, which hasn’t happened as yet in that contract.
Is it just me or are commentators not even trying to hide the fact that it’s being done remotely anymore. Also what are the facilities like at these top end venues? It might be a factor but It’s just a money saving excerise to have them in a studio in Sydney or Melbourne.
Had Mrs Starc in commentary last night. Wonder why her hubby isn’t playing
7 has called AFL games from Darwin and Cairns in recent years but the boxes would be side on in Darwin or 45° in Cairns, so not ideal for cricket.
Who’s the caller for today’s game? From the highlights I’ve seen it’s Mark Waugh & Brendon Julian ?
BJ and Waugh calling, Skull and Hadds specials, with Megan Barnard in Mackay
9 are very bad for that with the NRL, commentators will do pre game on the studio floor then call the game.
I don’t think it’s as shameful as it once was to call remotely but the mainstream fans of sport are catching on and they aren’t happy.
According to The Sunday Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield, Usman Khawaja will be a member of Fox’s commentary team once he retires from cricket.
wasn’t this announced before? i thought it was announced with Warner joining
Khawaja had a few guest stints on Fox Cricket, but this time it will be on a permanent basis.
It was - quoting from the first paragraph of the August 2023 announcement:
One of Australia’s most-respected opening batsmen ever, Usman Khawaja, will join the Fox Cricket commentary team as a full-time exclusive expert once he calls stumps on his playing career.
I knew it was announced before. I guess this is a refresher for people since he is most likely to retire after the Ashes
The tournament will also be shown live on Fox Cricket, starting with the opening match between Afghanistan and Hong Kong at 12.20am AEST (10.30pm tonight in WA).
Fox Cricket will show the women’s ODI series between India and Australia, with three matches played across seven days from tonight. Both teams are using the series to prepare for the upcoming World Cup.
