Fox Cricket

Was Vaughan the pbp?

Vaughan and Smith did play-by-play.

Fox calling tonight’s game from studio and not at the ground in Brisbane.

Looks like this is the main way for Fox these days. They bribed and harassed CA to give them the rights and this is what viewers get.

Cricket continues to suffer under the current and future simulcast rights deals.

I’ve barely watched an over of anything on either channel. I also won’t be attending games.

Megan Barnard hosting the Hurricanes V Stars game from Sydney studio. That didn’t stop her from saying twice in the first 30 seconds of the broadcast “here in Hobart”.

Mike Hussey fronting the coverage of tonight’s Big Bash coverage - with Ian Smith alongside. Not sure if Hussey’s hosted before, but he seems like he’s pretty good. Bit clunky on the segues but otherwise good.

Didn’t see all of today’s cricket but I noticed Isa Guha was doing the screen analysis Hussey usually does so guessing he had the entire day off?

It sounds like Fox is doing a better job of handling the load - there was a comment on Triple M on Wednesday that the Fox team that did the late BBL game was given the morning session off.

That’s the benefit 7 has where they have enough talent to have a dedicated group of BBL commentators during Tests (who many of which will graduate to Test coverage soon enough), while Fox’s overloaded Test team needs to back up and do BBL.

Ricky Ponting has been doing both for 7

Yes but not the whole team (essentially) that’s my point.

I’ve found out that Fox’s BBL coverage has some other things missing from 7’s coverage like there being no tracking of the bowler’s ball speed and distance of sixes hit. Wonder if this is because 7 are being petty and don’t provide this in their feed? I’ve also noticed that on weekday games that both 7 and Fox broadcast, they have different players mic’d up and 7 seem to get better players mic’d up for their coverage. In the past when Fox have taken 7’s feed, 7 appear to instruct their commentators to not talk during the ad breaks so Fox would have to get their commentators in the studio basically just to talk in between overs.

There was a similar issue with the AFL coverage about 10 years ago when 7 didn’t provide Fox with a native HD feed and their commentators didn’t talk between goals and I think the AFL had to step in. CA should do the same here so Fox’s viewers aren’t disadvantaged.

Isn’t that what Julian and Haddin have been doing for Fox? Obviously the Marvel game they got some of the Test crew to do being a short taxi ride away.

When Fox took the 7 graphics with 7 commentators or even their commentators they had all of 7’s stuff but when they have their stuff I think 7’s graphics don’t match Fox black layout? Maybe that’s why Fox aren’t using it. 7’s is the world feed, so Fox would be getting it but they may prefer not to use it and cut away to something that relates to their one?

When 7’s world feed interviews someone, Fox doesn’t show it etc

7’s DRS ones are generic and aren’t tied to their graphics while for the test matches Fox DRS stuff match the black layout of Fox graphics

was Fox not at the ground yesterday?

Looking at this clip, they didn’t know it was the early kids fireworks and unlike 7, they didn’t go down to ground level to do interviews post match

Probably weren’t.

Flying Fox looking a bit low res today

Daddles is back!

So we really need that thing plastering at the corners of the screen? It’s an eye saw and Daddles is a crap name.

7 doesn’t get the 6 distance on their broadcast for the tests but they show the ‘Fox tracker’ of it. 7’s BBL 6 distance doesn’t have their name or anything, so it is probably a decision by Fox to not show it
