Fox Cricket

Just goes to show that international experience means bugger all when it comes to commentary, because Mark Howard is good and quite a few of these others cause ear bleeds.

And? He’s there for his calling ability and broadcast background, not expertise in the field.

But it’s an article about the playing careers of the Fox commentary team and how you wouldn’t want to run into them in a park match.

I’d fancy my chances bowling to Mark Howard.

To be fair, Yates woman of Fox Sports various coverage was listed too.

The schedule for the Australian tour to Pakistan in October has been revealed, with two tests and three T20’s to be played. It looks like Fox Cricket will come across its first scheduling issue, with the 1st and 4th days of the first test from 7 October coinciding with the final two matches of the JLT One-Day Cup (albeit only a couple of hours overlapped).

Why did it take so long for Pakistan Cricket Board to announce the schedule for the Australian tour? Usually overseas tour schedules are revealed months in advance so teams can prepare accordingly and fans can book tickets, airfares and accommodation well ahead.

It’s all been put on hold because of Imran Khan taking over as PM and issues surrounding that. Mind you, those series in the UAE don’t really attract many fans anyway. Often played in front of largely empty stadiums.

Looks like Fox have been buying up all the rights to international cricket they’re even showing Ireland vs Afghanistan. Good to see.

interesting that the JLT Cup (one day domestic series) kicks off with Qld V Vic on Sep 16 but it will not be shown on Foxtel at all - the fist game scheduled to be shown on fox is WA vs NSW from the WACA on September 18.

Could be because the game on the 16th is a sunday.

They are also not showing any sheffield shield games with the exception of the final

CA will most likely be showing (live streaming) all the other JLT cup matches that Fox sports will not be. And I’m pretty sure CA still has the rights to show live streaming of all Sheffield shield games, not sure about the final.

It was part of the deal that only 13 of the 20 matches would be shown on Fox - I’d say it would be easier to only broadcast the games from Perth, Sydney and Melbourne so have skipped Townsville even though it’s the first fixture. They probably realise that audiences would be too huge with AFL/NRL finals matches on the same day. The remaining 7 matches will be streamed for free on the CA website, as will all Sheffield Shield matches apart from the final which will be on Fox Cricket.

I’d like to have seen them show a bit more of Sheffield Shield but I guess the final is better than nothing at all, and the coverage from CA on some of the matches streamed is almost as good as a TV broadcast.

There are no NRL/AFL finals scheduled for Sunday September 16, with all matches played on Friday and Saturday, so it will have been straight forward for Foxtel to show the Queensland-Victoria match from Townsville.

Ahh okay there you go, I just assumed there would be games on that day without checking!!

They could well have broadcast the games from Townsville then. But as part of the deal was to show only 13 matches, with a big chunk of those in Sydney, it probably ended up being a more feasible option to stick to the games being played in the capital cities.

Didn’t most of the PCB board resign?

The chairman certainly did at least, due to issues with Imran.

For the launch of Fox Cricket on 17 September, it’s great to see some “Fox Cricket Classics” scheduled with matches from the 80’s and 90’s currently listed in the guide.

Is getting cameras and an OB for TV telecast for what’s a one off game an issue?

It shouldn’t be. Cowboys NRL games is broadcast from Townsville every 1-2 weeks on Fox League in HD.

EDIT - I think the JLT Cup won’t be broadcast live on Fox Cricket due to availability of OB trucks. It was posted elsewhere that NEP has four OB trucks capable of producing HD broadcast, one each stationed at Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. The Brisbane-based truck will be required for Fox Sports’ coverage of the rugby union clash between Australia and Argentina on the Gold Coast on Saturday night, September 15. If an NRL semi-final is played in Brisbane on the same weekend, then another OB truck will need to be sent from interstate depending on NRL/AFL semi final match-ups. There is simply not enough time to send another one to Townsville for the cricket.
