I think they were right to go with 10 with the last deal because 10 doesn’t have any other sport to juggle with.

Now if they want to have more viewership etc then 7 or 9 might be the option BUT they have other sports (AFL, NRL, Cricket, Tennis etc) which I’m 100% sure would be prioritised more over ALM & ALW which means they will get similar numbers to 10. Prime time Socceroos and Matilda’s games might get better treatment and more viewers.

So It will be interesting to see who offers the more money and what Football Australia go with.

10 as the incumbent would be in normal circumstances be in the box seat, but they will somehow manage to stuff this up. They have been an abject disaster in chasing the rights for cricket and AFL and of course they weren’t helped by the corrupt processes with those deals. They’ve been good for FA as a steady and reliable broadcaster but alas they won’t get anywhere given their terrible record of late and their management constantly failing to sign any sports rights.

Didnt Paramount acquire a stake in APL as part of the last deal?

Optus will be keen on the rights for the ALM, ALW and Asian comps

Yes but the FA rights are separate from the APL A-leagues rights.

Ah yes, that happened when the A-League split from FA.

Looks like the FIFA rights are up too

Sister masthead SMH with their take, also confirming Football Australia negotiations beginning, spearheaded by Matildas euphoria

You’ve got to think that FA is going to walk away from this process disappointed - a Matildas game got little more then a month ago got ~400k viewers and that got a bit of a bump from the impending WC.

Its really hard to see any broadcaster paying significant amounts on the back of the world cup viewer numbers

I think if it wasn’t on 10Bold & was on 7 or 9, it would probably get an extra 100-200k. Which isn’t too bad.

But I agree with ur general statement about FA probably being disappointed about how much the broadcasters would be willing to pay up

I think 10 also has a trigger clause to extend their ALM & ALW for another 3 years.

That’s not relevant

Why not? Why should only paywall-free sites be shared?

TV Blackbox has provided a combined summary of SMH and AFR articles on the upcoming Football Australia rights.

Seven’s research team will have to drill deep into the record books this week, because Wednesday night should get very close to the all-time records (OzTam+RegTAM and/or ACNielsen).

I’d expect to see, certainly if close let alone extra time or penalties again, something around the mid-3m metro, which will again be the most watched TV program since that 2013 MKR finale (which is seeming to be an annoying barrier because it went so high), but if you go beyond that probably The Voice 2012 (Nine), London 2012 Olympics (Nine), 2010 AFL GF Presentations (Seven), Beijing 2008 Olympics (Seven), 2006 AFL GF (Ten), Melbourne 2006 Comm Games (Nine), 2005 AFL GF (Ten), 2005 Australian Open (Seven), 2003 Rugby World Cup (Seven), 2003 Australian Idol (Ten), 2001 FINA Swimming (Nine) and 2001 Wimbledon (Nine).

@TV.Cynic IIRC those should be the programs (in five city) that this Wednesday night should be hitting, in terms of historic 3m metros.

edit

Forgot to add 2021 AFL GF, 2020 AFL GF, 2016 AFL GF and 2012 AFL GF - however Saturday’s extra time/penalties might’ve already hit/gone just past that (although we only have preliminary).
