Mine never updated either
I donāt have it yet but I was invited to take part in the testing phase. The email said:
Weāre delighted to invite you to be part of an exclusive group to preview the next major release before it goes to everybody else.
Your Mighty or Mini will be updated with the new release next week (before anyone else)
You will be asked to use the Fetch box as you usually would, test the new features and to complete two surveys.
Thatās what I still have too.
Iām with iiNet (mini). No idea when this will be updated.
Just received my email to System Update this afternoon. Just updated it now. Good fresh look.
The new software is Abercrombie 3.10.1.
Same here, just updated my Mighty box and updating my Mini box now. Looks good. I like it, I really like the new TV Guide at first glance. Will see how we go after using it a bit more.
Iām guessing itās only for people who were invited at this stage?
Yes. You are invited to test it out and send feedback on any bugs you might find.
My only complaints about the new version are with the info bar on a show you are watching or have recorded and are watching back. Itās way too big now and the grey covers too much of the program you are watching. Thereās a lot of dark grey there now. I want to make it translucent (like I can on my TV) but you donāt have the option, as far as I know.
You also donāt need it to be grey at the bottom of the screen. I also prefer the old progress bar rather than that thin bar now and the little triangle that points to the position.
How does the catch up section look with the new software? Is the content displayed any better?
The display looks cleaner. There are 12 icons per page now. They could probably tidy it up because it still has FTA mixed with Pay TV.
The rows are on Page 1 are:
- 7plus, 10play, ABC iview, E!
- 9now, SBS OnDemand, Discovery, ABC Kids
- Oxygen, Nick, BBC First, BBC Brit
Page 2 has ABC Me right at the end.
It would make more sense to have ABC Me with ABC iview and ABC Kids on Page 1. Maybe this would be a better order:
- 7plus, 9now, 10play, SBS OnDemand
- ABC iview, ABC Kids, ABC Me
A great new Fetch feature is that you can Catch Up on programs in the last 24 hours through the TV Guide.
I heard about something that screened this afternoon so I was able to step back in the TV Guide and find it quickly.
Does anyone have any suggestions for when your Fetch box keeps blacking in and out. Iāve changed the HDMI cable over but it keeps happening. Everything else is fine. Its definitely the Fetch box.
Is that only available for the subscription channels or can you do it for FTA as well?
Just checked it on some FTA channels and it appears to have programs which are available on 7plus/10Play/9Now etc⦠or ones which are recorded.
e.g. I just had it on the AFL on 7Tas and I pressed the back button on the now info page and then play on 7Tas News and it played my recording (Iād imagine this one wouldnāt work if it hadnāt been recorded for me). It didnāt have all shows but had The Chase etc⦠but then Air Crash Investigations which doesnāt appear to have aired today so it might also pick some random things from the catch up services too. Still, not bad and impressive. Havenāt tried with the subscription channels though.
Not sure if itās a similar problem ⦠I sometimes get a red or blue or black screen of death where the box freezes. Unplugging and replugging the power then letting it restart it the only solution Iāve found that works.
Yeah, Free To Air. It has to be on their Catch Up service though. So you could watch Neighbours at 7pm as soon as it was loaded up to 10play.
You couldnāt watch Entertainment Tonight from the afternoon because it wasnāt loaded up on 10play. But you could watch it from early this morning because that was the repeat from yesterday.
How do you find the hybrid linear channels for the free-to-air catch-up services? They have pretty interesting TV guides.
Iām not sure if itās been mentioned here yet, but BBC Brit and Spike have recently joined Oxygen and Zoo Moo by converting to hybrid linear too. BBC Brit might have changed when they rebranded from BBC Living?
Yeah, think BBC Brit has always been an āhybridā channel
how are you finding it?
Yeah not too bad but it will take a while to get use to it. Very slick look.
