Fetch TV

Had an email from Optus recently stating they had been billing me incorrectly for Fetch, ie, not charging at all and apparently I’ve been able to make purchases without being charged, not that I was aware.

Anyhow, seems that from this month I’ll be paying $15 a month, is that the going rate with most internet providers?

Depends what you are subscribing to.

Fetch has four different $6 packages and an ultimate pack with all four for $20 (45 channels). There is also a $1 Movie Box package which has a new movie every day.

What are you getting for $15? Did you buy your box or is Optus charging a monthly fee just to have it?

Just the monthly fee to have it. Movie Box is included along with Optus Sport and I believe one package. Will have to look into I think to see if it’s value to us or not. We use catch up and the pvr daily.

Actually, all but one Optus Sport channel has disappeared and we appear to have the knowledge pack. Can’t look too deeply, someone’s engrossed in ABC Kids.

That explains it.

I bought the Fetch Mighty box outright and there are no ongoing subscription fees.

I think you’ll find it’s probably cheaper than a Foxtel package anyway. They start at $29 for the basic 45 channels pack and sport and movies are expensive add-ons.

I got my Fetch Box last week and i really like it. As a news junkie the alternate voices on Euronews and Channel News Asia are fantastic, The kids love ZooMoo and BabyTV and also enjoy Spike

Good to hear. I’ve never had it but always seen it as a pretty competitive service to Foxtel. I like world news as well and they seem to do a better job than Foxtel in this regard with France 24 and NDTV 24x7 on board as well. Is it true that Comedy Central is ad-free?

If only they had Showcase, I would never subscribe to Foxtel.

As is, for me, BBC World News.

Is Channel NewsAsia from Singapore?

Yes it is, as is Food Network. BBC World News also appears to come via Singapore going by commercials.

New software update was released to retail customers yesterday afternoon. The only time I’ve ever had issues. My box attempted the upgrade overnight and greeted us with a black screen this morning. Gave it a few reboots as it kept trying the update and then going to the black screen and then finally after about 5 attempts it worked. Looks like others on their facebook page are having similar issues. I never like to pull the power during a software update but fortunately this one seemed to be ok with it.

some on whirlpool also mentioned issues - it’s not out for me yet (aussie customers get it tomorrow)

Fetch claims that the software update issues have now been resolved. But now YouTube is not working and there is no timeframe for a fix. Casting YouTube from my phone to the Fetch box also doesn’t work.

Yeah, the YouTube one has been happening for a few weeks but has been intermittent, ie if you get the monkey try again and it usually works, if not go a third time and it’s fine but it looks like it’s fully broken today. It was fine yesterday and that was with the new version too.

Interestingly the new YouTube kids app still works but it doesn’t have any good stuff that I want on a Friday night!

The article at TV Blackbox also has a list of old and new Fetch channels.

I had to reboot my Fetch before the channels appeared. And my Fetch did something strange, hiding 80 WIN HD and making 8 WIN visible in the settings - I can’t work out why that happened. (I hide all the single digit SD channels).

BBC Earth will replace BBC Knowledge, and BBC Brit will replace BBC Living, in the Fetch Knowledge and Ultimate channel packs.
