MarryBrown will open its third Victorian store at Melbourne Central’s food court later this year. The site was previously a Korean food kiosk.

It follows MB’s opening at Brimbank Central in Melbourne’s west on December 23 last year.

As always, The Simpsons did it best:

Im keen to try this. Has anyone else?

I found it okay, but not really worth it, it’s too close to just McDonalds with fried chicken. Maybe if I’d been brave enough to try the spicy variants it’d make more sense, but it just didn’t wow me.

I prefer PapaRich for Malaysian food, as they have more variety on offer, and I find that Korean places have perfected fried chicken, so are my go to there, so that doesn’t leave me a big reason to want to go back.
The store was absolutely packed though (I went to the Burwood one) so they must be doing something right though…

Thanks @TV.Cynic

About time someone covered all these surcharge hits we are copping in Australia. There was a time when people applauded Australia for having the GST included in advertised prices and no hidden charges. As the story said tonight, businesses are charging credit card surcharges, weekend surcharges and even QR code ordering surchages.

Some good points were made in this story. One small business woman said she doesn’t charge a surcharge for using credit cards, she has just adjusted her prices accordingly, like 10c extra for a coffee. Also, complaints about advertising prices on a menu in a cafe or restaurant but never actually charging that amount because you can only pay with a credit card which attracts a surchage. And some places have begun putting a surcharge for ordering by QR code when that actually is cheaper for the business because they can employ less staff.

I don’t usually mind the card surcharges as long as thy are advertised and are reasonable ie not more than 2 per cent. I also don’t like public holiday surcharges in particular in tourist locations that would do more business on a public holiday or a Sunday then any other day of the week. I also don’t think employees should earn 5 times their normal wage on a public holiday but I do agree they should earn more but no more than maybe double or 3 times if it’s Christmas but that should be the extent of it.

It’s really frustrating that a lot of cafes and restaurants are charging a “weekend surcharge” when a lot of them do most of their work on weekends and weekdays are often quiet.

Maybe the solution is that the menu shows the “weekend prices”. Then you can have 10% off on weekdays to attract customers on those days.

Now that I have tried fried kitchens from KFC, Korean outlets (e.g. NeNe Chicken) and Marrybrown, I think KFC to be not as good as Korean and Malaysian fried kitchen. While KFC is still tasty enough thanks to its 11 secret herbs and spices, its chicken pieces are overcooked and chewy. Malaysian fried chicken is tender but is hotter than KFC and Korean. Korean fried chicken is somewhere in the middle.

I think Korean and Malaysian kitchens are always better than fast food.

The original La Porchetta restaurant, at Rathdowne Street, Carlton North in inner Melbourne, will close this Sunday (February 11) after nearly 40 years of trade. The chain still has 29 restaurants across Australia and NZ.

When you say hotter, do you mean spicier?

I haven’t had KFC fried chicken pieces in years, went off them as i found them too greasy. Am tempted to try Korean fried chicken though.
