I had Hungry Jack’s fried chicken burger for lunch today. I agree with Kushaa with the thick batter, but the fried chicken fillet is quite tasty.
I also notice HJ has added a new burger Chicago Angus to the Grill Masters menu. According to HJ website, it is “a thick and juicy Angus patty, stacked with Double Bacon, Egmont Cheese, Peppercorn Sauce, Tomato and Lettuce on a toasted brioche bun”. I will try it in a couple of weeks’ time.
Tried it today - including getting some onion rings on the side while I still can apparently - god it’s expensive for what it is.
It was quite nice and juicy, with that bit of crunch to it making a nice contrast - but the chicken lacks that extra 20% that the KFC recipe provides - there just wasn’t as much flavour to the coating, and they didn’t do enough with the sauce, so it just ended up tasting a lot like the Chicken Royale, just with thicker real chicken - rather than a really unique flavour.
But the price is the kicker, it was $18 as large with regular onion rings on the side - so I think that means it was around $15 for just the burger combo. KFC’s expensive, but even a boxed meal there with better sides like potato and gravy ends up being cheaper.
I am very impressed with the Jacks Fried Chicken burger. Better than the McChicken in my opinion.
Chicken was thick and juicy and had a very satisfying crunch
At least with Subway, you know what you are going to get, and I’ve never had trouble getting what I wanted, save for when their toaster oven was broken.
The McChicken in the USA was $1 up until a few years ago. In Canada the same burger is called the Junior Chicken and is sold for $2.
They also sell the ‘global’ McChicken for around the same price as is sold here in Australia.
I believe the actual equivalent of the US ‘McChicken’ here is the Chicken and Cheese burger (obviously with lettuce instead of cheese) which was $3, now $4.
