Fast Food/Takeaways and Restaurants

I had Hungry Jack’s fried chicken burger for lunch today. I agree with Kushaa with the thick batter, but the fried chicken fillet is quite tasty.

I also notice HJ has added a new burger Chicago Angus to the Grill Masters menu. According to HJ website, it is “a thick and juicy Angus patty, stacked with Double Bacon, Egmont Cheese, Peppercorn Sauce, Tomato and Lettuce on a toasted brioche bun”. I will try it in a couple of weeks’ time.

Does the burger have a brouche bun or is it normal burger bread? I don’t understand the appeal of brouche bread, I wish the trend would go away.

The chicken burger I had today used a normal burger bread.

The new fried chicken burgers should be on the Brioche buns.

Tried it today - including getting some onion rings on the side while I still can apparently - god it’s expensive for what it is.

It was quite nice and juicy, with that bit of crunch to it making a nice contrast - but the chicken lacks that extra 20% that the KFC recipe provides - there just wasn’t as much flavour to the coating, and they didn’t do enough with the sauce, so it just ended up tasting a lot like the Chicken Royale, just with thicker real chicken - rather than a really unique flavour.

But the price is the kicker, it was $18 as large with regular onion rings on the side - so I think that means it was around $15 for just the burger combo. KFC’s expensive, but even a boxed meal there with better sides like potato and gravy ends up being cheaper.

Well, Edwina Bartholomew hasn’t…

With more than 650 stores across Australia, KFC is one of the nation’s most popular fast food restaurants.

But Sunrise host Edwina Bartholomew has never tried the finger lickin’ good cuisine, sparking outrage from her breakfast television co-stars.

“You know what, I’ve never had KFC,” she admitted on Friday after presenting a finance story about the fried chicken giant’s expansion.

“I’ve had the chips I think, but I’ve never had the chicken.”

“I’ve had Maccas, but never KFC.”

Eddy comes across as a little off centre most times.

I am very impressed with the Jacks Fried Chicken burger. Better than the McChicken in my opinion.
Chicken was thick and juicy and had a very satisfying crunch

A lot better effort than the Big Jack

The McChicken is outrageously overpriced in the Australian market - it’s basically the same as HJs Chicken Royale which is $3.

And it’s shrunk.

The Monopoly section of the mymaccas app has stopped working for me. How am I now supposed to get my free small soft drinks and fruit bags?

They honour them if you hand them over the counter. At least my local Maccas did.

The voucher versions yes, but not the ones you win in the app.

I hadn’t tried KFC until I was in my twenties, just wasn’t something we were ever fed growing up :man_shrugging:

Same here, my folks were McDonald’s people.

Except when we were on holidays in Alice Springs in 1987, we had KFC 4 nights in a row because there was no McDonald’s in town then.

My family were Macca’s people most of the time - never HJ’s, but we did have Subway and KFC from time to time too!

I am over Subway. Give me a stand-alone sandwich shop any day.

At least with Subway, you know what you are going to get, and I’ve never had trouble getting what I wanted, save for when their toaster oven was broken.

Subway is a lot better overseas. Australia lacks some ingredients and recipes. UK and US Subway are far better.

The McChicken in the USA was $1 up until a few years ago. In Canada the same burger is called the Junior Chicken and is sold for $2.

They also sell the ‘global’ McChicken for around the same price as is sold here in Australia.

I believe the actual equivalent of the US ‘McChicken’ here is the Chicken and Cheese burger (obviously with lettuce instead of cheese) which was $3, now $4.
